Experience is certainly one factor that informs competent writing. There are other other relevant factors too. Creativity, passion, determination, and intellect certainly help.

having done that pre-stroke, post-stroke I was able to NOTICE when paths were not working, and build new pathways quickly so that what I was playing sounded correct again.

At least in some measure I believe that this helped my recovery immensely.

In seriousness, besides the emotional benefits of music, it is my belief that the act of playing music uses an interesting combination of brain activity. On one side you need a certain level of rote training and precision and then the ability to relax and use that in a creative process.

This is how I saw it in the late 1980s. Theater double feature of The Man Who Fell to Earth followed by Eraserhead.

I look out across a field and see trees. I believe it is beautiful. I can not tell you why, only that I see it so. Each tree I describe might get the reader a little closer to understanding, but it will never be complete.
