I think what happened is Trump was made aware of the impact on the American economy, most immediately through the stock market, and looked for an opportunity to climb down. The Canadian and Mexican governments just gave him a fig leaf

So I live in one of the ridings mentioned in your piece (Skeena) and here at least this probably isn't true. There are no Liberals to appeal to and opposing Trudeau is probably the price of admission for most Bachrach-Ross swing voters. I wonder if that's the dynamic in their other ridings too?

So if the NDP said the thing that’s obviously true (to them), that while they have broad disagreements with the Liberals they are party they can work with and are vastly preferable to a CPC majority, would the be better or worse politically?
