you brought up architecture as a parallel, which seems to me to be more nuanced in terms of funding (a lot of great architecture is paid for by the wealthy, but a lot is publicly funded as well). do you have thoughts on what conditions allow fashion artisans to thrive, aside from wealthy patrons?

love this thread. there's a complicated history between artisans and exorbitant wealth, for sure.

it seems to me that this is particularly true in fashion, which is largely driven by individuals spending on their personal aesthetics.

Crucial context here: @adamisacson.com suggests that there may be as many as 31 people imprisoned in CECOT whose names have never been made public.

Their families have literally no public acknowledgment or way of knowing where their loved one is being held.

That is a classic disappearance.
288 people have been rendered to El Salvador’s mega-prison. We only know 257 of their names—and not because the US or Salvadoran governments shared them.

It shouldn't be up to civil society to compile things like this table. Of course, none of this should be happening at all.
