A family man, life interest in our RN, military history, strategy, past book reviewer & day skipper, enjoyed a City life lost to a spinal injury.
☝️ Dad as Navigator Observer sat behind the pilot Joe Liddle in their FAA Tarpon/Avenger.
A childhood fav from Sunday afternoon TV 👍

To mark her loss the USN renamed a Baltimore class CA to CANBERRA (WW2). Also currently the name of a littoral combat ship with this 👍 badge.

Finished reading & 👍
Confused for many years by what Ops meant, where it is placed, its differing meaning & its use. Enjoyably enlightened by understanding the function of Op Art from its dangerous misleading take at Op Level. Thank you.

Lawrence was proud of the 300 men of the Imperial Camel Corp who fought with him, as am I, for this is my Grt Uncle George’s unit, for if he was not KIA May 1918, be riding with TEL. In a wonderful description of the ICC, he said 40 men would beat on march any Arab. A wonderful read.

Truth & fantasy. Tristan was an outstanding adventurer sailor & author. I was hooked from the first. Yet. In Hearts of Oak of his RN life, his ship, that I could not identify, had a hard war brilliantly told. It was all imagination, as were some of his achievements. He fooled all for many years 🍻

My Grt Uncle fought with the ICC, KIA May 1st 1918. Some forty yrs past at the Barbican library I found a copy & much to my surprise, the small action in which he fell is recorded within.
