It’s so horrific that my brain refuses to commit it to memory and I end up “relearning” it and being floored every time. Jefferson promised to free her in his will but never did. Even though she was “allowed” to leave Monticello after his death, she died a slave.

Fun Fact: Completely frozen items are explicitly allowed by TSA. Water’s physical density and electron density make it look similar to explosives through x-ray imaging. Freezing changes both properties enough to distinguish as benign.

It’s a classic divide-and-conquer tactic pitting liberation movements against each other. White conservatives highlighted homophobia in Black churches to alienate LGBTQ+ activism from the Civil Rights struggle when they cared for neither. In reality, these struggles are not mutually exclusive.
