Update: The Trump administration says it will return to the Supreme Court to continue fighting an order to fund food stamps in full. But it said the request may be moot, in the end, if Congress funds SNAP. So there is some light at the end of the tunnel, maybe.

Since breaking the story, I’ve learned more about one state (Wisconsin) where the Trump admin on Friday had blocked some of the behind the scenes transactions that make SNAP work. And that’s raised some eyebrows heading into Monday about what might happen next, if the court doesn’t rule
NEW: The Trump admin told states it must immediately "undo" the work to provide full food stamp benefits, or face penalties. The feds sent this in a late-night memo, only adding to the chaos and confusion around SNAP. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/09/b...

the truth is, I have no idea -- and several states, in fact, did not have any idea -- how this guidance would be implemented and what it would mean in practice. which is the problem, of course. it creates only more confusion around a program in serious trouble.

What we’ve heard after a day of reporting is that some states couldn’t complete benefit payments, and some SNAP recipients could not use their cards.

The Trump admin continues to block food stamp aid

The AP tracked down details of some of the people killed in President Trump's military strikes on drug smugglers he describes as narco-terrorists.

They were, with one exception, not high-level criminals. One was a fisherman. One was a bus driver; another a taxi driver.

Some states have taken steps to make full SNAP benefits available today even as this plays out, I've learned. That includes California, Michigan, Oregon and Wisconsin.

I think there's a real question here about what'll happen in the event of a stay and if that's going to trouble EBT processors
