If some of the U.S. bishops do not come out to support Bishop Buddle they will have failed badly, and greatly weakened their position for future battles, of which there will be many.

My problem with his speech was that it came across to me as the rantings of an adolescent mind, boasting about how great he is. A poor state the U.S. is in, if they really think this is their saviour.

Looking at the current state of the United States from a distance (Ireland), it is hard to understand what is happening, and fearful of the consequences. I’ve been there many times - even did a twenty city speaking tour in 2014 - and I loved the country; but wouldn’t want to go there now.

My main focus for the past 20 years or so, as a catholic priest, is working for change and reform in the Church. I have suffered for it, by being forbidden to practice my ministry. But I keep going. I believe that unless the Church changes it will gradually die out here in Ireland.

This is my first entry, since moving away from X. I loved Twitter, and used it lot, but couldn’t hack the present set up.
