Text: Governor Hochul, don’t sign the OPTO ban! I'm calling on Governor Hochul to veto A-4873, which would ban One Person Train Operation in the NYC subway. I ride the G train frequently, and the single train operator on weekends has not made service less safe or reliable. Signing this bill would result in service cuts or fare increases. I think New York should add more MTA jobs by increasing train service, not by adding regulations that will reduce service. The Effective Transit Alliance has shown that other transit systems have implemented OPTO safely and effectively. They also point out that this bill is full of inaccurate claims, including that NYC subway trains have a capacity of 10,000 riders — the maximum capacity of a 10-car train is less than 2500. I can’t find any argument for passing this bill that isn’t many years out-of-date. The MTA needs every tool to make transit affordable and accessible for everyone — please don’t sign this bill!

Over the years, my brother and I repeatedly requested meetings of the governor, who publicly dismissed us. I had voted for him because I believed he would support and protect all our families. Instead, he gaslit us, defending his March 25, 2020 directive regarding hospital discharges and admissions to nursing homes and falsely declaring that he followed President Trump's federal CDC/CMS guidelines. The former governor has routinely tried to evade accountability for his decisions regarding nursing home patients during COVID, having been caught distorting the number of deaths in a state report, and then being accused of lying about it to Congress, which referred him for criminal prosecution.
