The impression I get from YouTube essays that I’m made to sit through by young people in my life is “why would I spend 80 minutes figuring out something to do after reading a ten minute article when instead I can just watch a 90 minute video.” 😐

Maybe something folks are uncomfortable with is that in sports, if you win we’ve kinda decided it doesn’t matter if it’s against the rules or the rules are wack. It only matters if you’re caught (Balco, Armstrong). Brady’s 1st ring still counts even if the tuck rule was changed. But why moralize?

It’s like “that was a terrible decision… but moving on because there are systemic issues at play that I have no influence over and someone smarter than me will write that essay.”

And meanwhile folks in the group chat/discord/social platform say they’re just so mad, but like… ok.

I’m surprised by how many tennis fans really seem to love the order and decorum. Like if referees were cops, NBA and soccer fans are like ACAB and tennis fans are like blue lives matter. One of few sports I can think of where heckling the ump isn’t a time-honored tradition.

I was slate plus subscriber pretty much exclusively because of you, Josh, and Stefan. Glad I can still hear at least you once a week!

Late to the party here, but just want to say that hearing you all back together again made me very happy. Y’all were always something to look forward to every week during some very crazy years.

hasn’t Mr beast taught us that people will watch people do anything for very very long periods of time

Working for LCV and then as a director for dem consulting group during the pandemic made me vow to never donate to a political campaign again as I eagerly left behind a 15 year career in DC.

Thanks for making me want to donate again. Stoked for you.

It is good to be angry to people online for being losers! May the AI Jesus collage and very young girls in your profile photo shower all the love on you that you ever wanted, as a strong and smart person like you deserves!

O also: yeah the headline sucks. I hope that by calling it clickbait, my agreement was apparent.

You may be much more generous than me if you take the account’s question about who she is at face value! 🙃 Maybe you value public convo as a principle more than me who misses expertise in the discourse?

Again, editors write the headlines not writers.

It would be nice if huge accounts (i.e. whoever runs the beloved Mr Takei’s social) were more knowledgeable, on account of their influence. Ignoring the shade in their question is willful ignorance.

Instead of screenshots, how about links+commentary?

Even if he could read, it seems like he would very much choose not to, which is probably the bigger problem for a head of state.

Not being able to read fortunately takes that choice off his plate, which thank goodness, he’s such a busy man.

Twenty three years ago, a friend’s roommate, an investment banker, went into the office on his first day off in weeks because he didn’t know what else to do with his time.

It was then that I realized I would never understand people who aren’t curious to try new hobbies, to take leisure seriously.

It’s odd to me that any influential person/account wouldn’t know her? This is just about egg production!

She’s been very prominent in Econ and policy reporting for well over a decade! And I figured we’d all know by now that writers don’t pick their headlines, with The Atlantic being très clickbaity

Came here to say that. Don’t respect someone? Deliberately mispronounce their name.

I grew up in Jersey and moved back during the pandemic to help my ailing parents. For the last few weeks, I’ve been sad to say I’ll be moving away in May.

Maybe not now, thanks to this message. What is this horseshit?
