Springtime in our little Denham ‘village’.

Eighteen months here and still feel the need to take pictures. That must be a good sign!!

A very sunny morning spent at the Tandem Collective thriller day, part of their #tandemweekender at Fairview Farm

It was a pleasure to talk to Lex and a room full of brilliant #bookstagram & #booktok content creators about books, the Bar & what comes next with #revengeofodessa

Lunch of Champions: protein and fibre!!

Or…the lunch of someone who still can’t use their thighs after a leg session almost 48hrs and who is desperate for anything that might help fix them before heading back in to the gym at 7.30 tonight…

My race home against Joseph didn’t go quite as planned.

Who taught him to hog the middle of the road!??

Today’s view while I finish my #RevengeOfOdessa edits.

Mother Nature doesn’t make strict deadlines easy, does she!?!

Finally got Joseph into the gym. Can’t believe he waited until he was almost 7. Lazy little bastard.

This literally never gets old!!

(For me, I hasten to add!! Not for you lot!!)

More deer photos from my walk to the station!!

It never gets old.

Well, not for me, anyway!! Or for Maximus the Jack Russell!!

When I was 18-21 & living in Dundee, I was lucky enough that one of my boxing coaches was the legendary Dick McTaggart, the greatest British amateur boxer of all time.

It was one of the biggest honours I ever had.

Dick passed away at the weekend. A loss of a legend.

RIP, Sir.

I’ve just been recommended this great new book by Amazon.

You know what, I think I’m going to order one. Looks like it’s right up my street!!!

Very much enjoying my long train journey to Aberdeen for Granite Noir

I’ve been writing most of the way but also taking a little trip down memory lane

I’m not sure what it says about my youth that I remember each town I pass by reference to who I fought there, but hey ho…

All set up for my 7hr 15min train journey to Aberdeen and Granite Noir Crime Writing Festival.

Very very VERY close to the end of my new one, be interested to see if I can finish it at this ‘desk’…

Earphones in.

Gladiator 20th Anniversary Edition soundtrack on.

Let’s kill some Nazis!!

Varied day today.

Up early to get some writing hours in.

Then two cases, one in Basildon, one in Inner London.

And a little later I’m meeting my agent at Joe Allen in London.

Which begs the question: do I get there early and eat some chicken wings?

Here’s the answer:

Back on schedule today with Day 23 & the final Day of my Special Mentions, which are:

(1) Firefly - not a single bad episode, but only 1 season

(2)House of Cards - should have died w/Frank Underwood

(3) 24 - Brilliant but SO ridiculous

(4) Supernatural - A perfect 5 seasons. So why make 15!?
January 28, 2025 at 10:19 AM
Missed yesterday so today is Day 22 & Day 2 of the Special Mentions

(1) What We Do In The Shadows - too much of a one man show

(2) Veep - Brilliant but nasty

(3) Everybody Loves Raymond - A personal one but doesn’t quite make it

(4) Somebody Feed Feel Phil - Love it but can’t include a food show
January 27, 2025 at 10:37 AM
Day 21, so time for a ‘Special Mention’ hiatus!

(1) Brooklyn 99: Hilarious for 6 seasons, then jettisoned ‘funny’ for ‘woke’

(2) Yellowstone: SO enjoyable but SO absurd

(3) Game of Thrones: Peerless for 5 seasons. Sadly it had 7

(4) Sherlock: 3 amazing episodes, then disappeared up its own arse.

There’s a fair bit of macro-counting in my current high-protein eating regime. It’s not too time consuming but it IS a faff

And it DOES have its advantages. Such as eating in places that serve food like THIS!

Bloody love Rodizio!

There are worse ways to take a break from a long night of writing!

Day 13 on my favourite TV shows of all time countdown and we hit No 13: the police procedural that made all others redundant

One of those rare shows where the ugly half of the main cop pairing turned out to be the icon, to a 90’s UK kid nothing had ever seemed as real as NYPD Blue

It was amazing

My walk home while I’m in Norwich Crown Court is like a mini-history tour. I just wish I was a better photographer!!

I’ll never be a fan of defending away from home but there are worse places to be.

(Plus I’ve got fun memories of being in Tombland during my pupillage!!)

Day 9 of my favourite TV shows of all time brings us to No 17 & more US comedy

Underwatched due to a terrible 1st season - the result of pushing ahead during a writer’s strike - this show went on to be one of the best ensemble sitcoms ever made

It also gave us Ron Swanson

At No 17: Parks & Rec
January 13, 2025 at 7:04 AM
Day 6 of my favourite TV shows of all time & today the self-indulgence finally reaches No 20 & the newest entry on the list

I don’t know if it was low expectations shattered, if it’s my massive love of the source material, recency bias or just sheer excellence, but No 20 is…

…The Day of the Jackal
January 10, 2025 at 7:38 AM
Day 5 of my favourite TV shows of all time & at No 21 we have the show that influenced my life choices more than any other

It’s a weird one for a 12 year old’s must-see-TV: an old fella with a red bag & a horsehair wig. But growing up in a post-Rumpole era it was THE barrister show: Kavanagh QC

Having forgotten to bring any of my own books to the Tamassa Resort mini-library in Mauritius, Victoria ordered a whole bundle from Amazon Books. And they arrived in time!!

We never thought they’d make it. No wonder Jeff Bezos is loaded!!

Two ‘vehicle moving forward’ POV shots.

Taken 48hrs apart.

Where would you rather be!?!
