New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

I agree with all of that and yet I’m still not satisfied with anything. Also, if Proton is glowie, then how much as compared to Google/Microsoft

There’s a debate in the legal community. American judges will sign almost anything a cop puts in front of them. We should minimize email, yes. But do we better protect client data by using a Swiss encrypted-at-rest service or are we creating new risks by having client data stored outside the US?

This is the story of the government's unlawful effort to deport migrant children under the cover of night during a holiday weekend.

It’s also the story of how district court judges are watching each other grapple with the administration—and adapting in response: www.lawfaremedia.org/article/the-...

It turns out every Nexar dashcam came with an AWS key that too high privileges. Which let that individual camera upload its own footage, but also let an attacker access everyone else's footage too. Terabytes of data. Nexar fixed after I contacted www.404media.co/this-company...
