Not saying this is the case for everyone, like I said above, there are people who aren't speaking out because they are happy with this or don't care, but not everyone is able to speak out freely even if they want to.

Some are in family systems that would remove/hurt them if their real thoughts were known, or their mental health is so poor, ignoring the news is the only way they won't fall into depression. Others in abusive relationships where their partner would seriously hurt them if they spoke their minds.

It feels tone deaf because you have no way of knowing if you can trust them. It's not always as black and white though. Sure, there are the privileged ones who think they aren't going to be affected or the ones who actually want what's happening to happen, but there are also some who can't.
