I once showed a poem I wrote to my favorite English teacher and she told me it didn't make any sense. I stopped writing poetry for like 15 years after that 🫠

Wow! Rude!

It was great to have this discussion! This is my first time using Bluesky really, it was nice to learn your perspective and have a thoughtful organized conversation about a really important issue.

Absolutely, I agree, I think in our part of the world we are especially numb to consumerism and convenience. We should always be thinking more critically about our consumption and what benefits it brings and what things we can do without. Easy isn't always better!
November 22, 2024 at 7:10 AM
important that we are all mindful of our consumption and I definitely respect you for pushing people to question it more, thanks 💜
November 22, 2024 at 6:56 AM
This is true, I am definitely in agreement that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism and you make a great point. I try to use it in moderation but I also understand that like everything, we do things on a spectrum. some will engage more than others and some not at all. It's still

Sheesh, I wish that was true 😅 It's amazing the petty shit people nitpick about these days. I saw a post just tonight on FB about a woman berating people in the comment sections because they pointed out that bulk leaf drop off might contain bits of trash and to just be aware. 🙃

Not to say we shouldn't recycle or be mindful of our consumption, I just am not sure that it's realistic or fair to ask everyone to avoid AI at all costs.
November 22, 2024 at 6:50 AM
That may be true but I still have to pay my rent today and capitalism isn't going away tomorrow, ya know? I don't feel that it is fair to put my integrity on the line when myself and others already have so much against us. It's like recycling to fix climate change, it's a grain of sand in the ocean

That said, I did just hire someone to help me but even still, I have to train her and I have to work more to afford to pay her. When you run a micro enterprise there is not a lot of financial support or any support and so my resources are very limited.

I have definitely thought about it, for me, I own a business and am a full time student and am disabled. I use it most often to fix punctuation errors because I am dyslexic. I use it to help me draft newsletters because I only have so much time and energy and I don't have money to hire out that help

from a tool that is helping them navigate this capitalist, ableist hellscape?
November 22, 2024 at 6:44 AM
I am in definite agreement with you on the government regulations, I know that in and of itself is a flawed system but it still needs to happen. It does make me wonder though about the social point you made. If people are already overworked and overdistracted, is it fair to ask them to disengage
November 22, 2024 at 6:43 AM
That's interesting, I have not thought about social media hitting growth potential, people are constantly being born and aging, I would think that those shifts would play a stronger role in that. I agree though that the algorithm system seems very flawed and reactionary.
November 22, 2024 at 6:40 AM
Oooh, yea that makes complete sense now, thank you! It is interesting how quick we are to assume that because it's computer generated it's unbiased, but like, it was built by humans and humans are naturally biased?? It's a good thing to keep in the front of our minds when engaging with it.

some of the burden off my plate.
November 22, 2024 at 6:35 AM
it seems as though it is the thing we can do right now, since it's already out and has rapidly spread. As a business owner, I have had lots of talks with folks that didn't like it but then found it to be super helpful to streamline processes, myself included. I can only do so much and it helps take
November 22, 2024 at 6:35 AM
In my public policy class we talk a lot about problem based solutions; seeing a problem then finding a solution as opposed to creating solutions for potential problems. When I think about the issues with AI, I think that we need to establish policy around the problems. Definitely not ideal but
November 22, 2024 at 6:33 AM
You make some really good points in this thread, it seems to me though that this new technology is kind of inevitable and there isn't much we can do to stop it now that it exists. What would you recommend we do now considering it's so prevalent already?
November 22, 2024 at 6:31 AM
I am having a hard time understanding what this is saying, can you break it down in more simple terms for me?
