In 4th place is the 36km Dakar TER suburban rail with 62k avg daily riders in 2024 running 10 min headways weekdays & 20 mins on weekends.

Mauritius's 30km tramway rounds out the list of top 5 performers with 45k riders/day in 2024

Algiers urban rail system composed of an 18.5km metro with 2023 ridership of 126k/day & 4 min headways, an RER, & a slow 23km tram with 70k/day that should be a metro is in 2nd Place.

This is what DeepSeek had to say about it.

Storing opened sesame oil outside the fridge is generally acceptable if done properly, but refrigeration is recommended for optimal shelf life.

The same as a Cadillac Escalade SUV.

That's the part the EV Fandom has quietly ignored. The Zeekr Mix MPV, for example, is 2.6 tons.

I added the MG Cyberster & Mazda MX-5 to the table.

The MG Cyberster's 1,885kg weight is in line with its footprint. The NMC battery pack holds 77kWh & 400km WLTP range.

An NMC pack in the MX-5 footprint will weigh ~1,500kg & hold 60kWh & 310km range. LFP will hold 50kWh & 260km range.

Wheelbase and Foot Print (Wheelbase X Width) determines the weight of a car.

The same wheelbase constraint also determines the battery capacity. LFP battery packs are in the 12 to 15kWh/m2 range, while NMC/NCA are in the 16-18kWh/m2 range.

LAMATA is counting the tail tracks beyond the Marina & Mile 2 stations. Of all the odd ball, non-global standard practices from LAMATA, this might seem like a minor issue, but if Lagos is going to do a metro, it's best to do it right.
January 23, 2025 at 5:14 AM
LAMATA includes the "tail tracks", the excess trackage beyond the active stations as part of the system length. This is not in line with the global standard. All metro systems in the world list only the "Service trackage" as part of their system length ignoring any tail tracks.
January 23, 2025 at 5:14 AM
Every media outlet lists the Lagos Blue Line as 13km because that's the official info from LAMATA, but actual "service trackage", the distance between the terminal stations is 12km.

The closest Walmart near me in Richmond, CA, is in Hilltop Mall.

It's as Suburban as they get, but it uses more compact cartilators to access the 2 floors of retail.

Just like NYC, no Walmart in San Francisco either.

These options could definitely work for NYC.

I remember frequently using the Santurce Walmart when I was living in Puerto Rico.

It has 6 floors. Bottom 2 floors was 145k sqft of retail, upper 4 was parking. For NYC, they can skip the parking.

Inclined travelators give cart access to the floors.

The Wegmans at Astor Place is 82k sqft on 2 floors.

Walmart currently has the H street store in DC, which is 83k sqft, 2 fl, + 303 apartments on top. Pic1

And the Chicago loop neighborhood market, 40k sqft. 2 fl. Pic2

But after 15yrs, cracks developed in both sections at similar rate. The conclusion from the concrete analysis was that in order to maintain long-term performance, controlling base
erosion and joint settlement by providing an adequate drainage system was necessary.

In 1993 Michigan DOT embarked on a long term study of European highway pavement design project where they paved 2.3 miles of I-75 with MDOT pavement in one direction & Euro pavement in the other direction. The Euro side cost 120% more.

Mumbai's resurfacing is designed for 8yrs, while Gatwick's is designed for 7yrs. If 2 of the world's most intense used runways have less than 10yrs resurfacing cycles, then expecting a 10yr cycle while ignoring maintenance is unrealistic.

In Gatwick, the runway was closed for 7.5hrs a day with construction taking 6 months, while in Mumbai, the runway was closed for 8hrs

This has led the current Aviation minister to demand a 10 year guarantee from the contractor on the construction of the 2nd runway.

Nonetheless, the ₦5.8 billion 2017 reconstruction is already showing cracks in the taxiway 6yrs later. The lack of routine annual maintenance & no repairs on the taxiway led to an aircraft getting stuck in the taxiway.

In 2015 the initial awarded contract for the 2nd runway to the amount of ₦64 billion was rejected based on the grounds of high costs when compared to other runway projects in the country.

However, in 2022 an even higher amount of ₦92 billion was finally approved.

The land acquisition for the new runway required a compensation of ₦826 million ( US$516k ) to the Jiwa community where the runway site is located. With a total project cost of ₦92 billion (US$57 million), this gives a 0.9% land acquisition to total project cost ratio.

The lack of a 2nd runway at Abuja airport has been a long standing issue. The 6-week closure of the airport in 2017 for reconstruction increased the agitation for a 2nd runway. Nigeria's other major cities, Lagos, PHC, & Kano all have a 2nd runway

The Abuja 2nd Runway Project is currently under construction. Construction started in Oct 2023 and was projected to be completed in 12 months. The ₦92 billion ( US$57 million) project will add a 2nd runway to the airport. The latest satellite image is from Feb 2024.

One could also critique the head scratching route alignment in the master plan. The decision to have Cat Linh station on Line 2A elevated was a bad one. The line should have gone U/G prior to Cat Linh for easy extension north.

Left pic is existing
Right pic is how I would realign the lines.
