I'm gonna need Trinity to show up with this energy early in Esther's face

Too bad Portland beat San Diego. We would have had a (very slim) chance of seeing this interaction repeated:

While I was at it, I figured I would compare NWSL to WSL. The average Pts/MP is slightly higher in the WSL (because more games are won), and the Standard Deviation is significantly higher. The lowest SD Pts/MP for WSL is 0.660 (2024-25), which is higher than the highest NWSL of 0.627 (2018):

As bad as Chicago's season felt, they tied Bay FC for the 13th worst Z-Score for Pts/MP at -1.34. In fact, Chicago did worse in 2023 than 2025.
Gotham has had a major glow up from 2022 (-1.94) and so has KC from 2021 (-1.91).

The average Pts/MP was the second lowest in league history (2022 lowest), but the Standard Deviation of the Pts/MP was pretty typical (7th out of 12 seasons). The major outlier was KC, whose Z-Score was 2.60 SDs from the mean. The next closes were 2015 Reign (1.93) and 2016 Reign (1.89).

As far as Valuable goes, it seems obvious KC relied on Chasings. She also had the highest +/- Per 90 and second highest On-Off:

Well, what about people who make a living watching and ranking the best players in the world? Surely they realize she was the best American, and definitely the best US midfielder, right?!

I mean, at least her peers understood this level of play and voted her into the FIFPRO World XI, right?

Checking Spotrac to see what other Chicago players are FAs. After sorting by YOE, I realized that Ava Cook has been around for much longer than I remember ;)

She has been a last-minute sub in 6 games this season. While accounting for unavailability (3 INTL breaks), she has been playing less and less % of available games by coach, and even less and less meaningful minutes by coach:

Yes, but also the correlation between NWSL team rank and USWNT call-ups is fairly consistent, esp when you account for how many starters on each team are other nationalities (although some players are not in top XI starters for their team - Thompson, Sentnor, Shaw, etc.):

I was trying to think of a time where I DID like the look of someone holding her knee, and this came to mind:

Based on regular season finishes (not counting Challenge Cup or postseason), this looks to be the third 4-season glow-up of the team:
2013-2016: 8 -> 4 -> 4 -> 2
2017-2021: 10 -> 8 -> 5 -> 3
2022-2025: 11 -> 8 -> 2 -> 2
If that pattern continues, next season could be a drop-off year.

Here's what Chicago vs KC looked like just months ago under one of our many previous interim coaches this season:
