I'm currently 9 years in on a 30-year mortgage, I'm hoping to refinance into a 15 to get my house paid off faster but there's really nothing in my market that would make it worth it for me to sell.

Fair point, some people had cash, some people were able to refi into 15s, refinance, ect. However, the norms of buying and selling houses over a lifetime are changing rapidly. I'm in my mid-40s and my friends that own houses have no point in selling. It will become a problem.

Wrong! 40% of people have that own homes have paid off their mortgages. With all the inflation and appreciation on homes plus the mortgage rates what they are, it's simply not affordable to downsize or buying up from starter homes.
