But that's not because of lack of money in the system. American productive output is very high, it's just that consumption is even higher and very unevenly distributed.

Academia had it coming because intellectuals are key opposing force to money and academia is an important centre of power. Intellectuals have been under attack for decades for this reason (evolution, climate science, vaccines etc). The war on woke is just another form of attack on intellectuals.
