Translating people’s disutility from commuting into a monetary value “isn’t that straightforward”?

Really?

It’s trivially easy to estimate willingness to forgo your time for a monetary value. It’s called a salary.

I’m looking forward to a collaboration between these two. Maybe it would be a podcast on the olfactory politics of irregular migration?

Twitter isn’t at all flooded with loopy conspiracy theorists.

Here’s a Tweet from the famously sane David Icke popping up in my feed…

I've often thought this.
But it's interesting to see The Economist take a similar view.
It's tongue-in-cheek, but it makes a lot of sense.

Cultural differences between Drs

International medical graduates (IMG) & benzodiazepine (BZD) prescribing
- IMG less likely to prescribe BZD than domestic graduates
- varies by country
- IMG from UK have lowest BZD prescribing
- IMG from Agrica/Europe also low

A question for social epidemiology / political science researchers.
Has this ever been investigated?
What is the effect of social connections on becoming part of the legislature?
A case-control study could estimate the proportion (% attributable risk) of MPs in parliament due to social connections

Another element to this.
Capital spending ≠ infrastructure
Depends on efficiency of spend
In terms of bangs for buck for capital investment I seem to recall there's evidence that stuff like railways etc cost more per km in UK than France.

This misinformation has now been retweeted over 500 times.
If you don't understand why interrupted time series analysis is at higher risk of bias than a retrospective cohort study (link) for this question, is it wise to express an opinion?

The paper shows no evidence of a relationship between
- Covid infection in 1st trimester & birth abnormalities
- Covid vaccination in 1st trimester & birth abnormalities

No evidence for either the OP's claim or vaccine harm.

Almost all births are included.
What else could explain the findings?

Farmland can also become building land.
~3 acres in Sussex is worth £1,500,000 with planning permission.
I'd guess it's worth ~£100,000 as pasture

You can't imagine any other possible uses for land in rural Sussex?

Sorry I won't be investing.

The original post of this unreliable study
1) Was by a senior academic with no expertise in epidemiology
2) Has been reposted 320 times
This is how misinformation spreads. Credentials are used as evidence of veracity, not critical appraisal.
Ironically the original poster is a "science communicator"

Study A
1) Time trend data
2) Doesn't report differences with & without Covid infection in pregnancy
Study B (link)
1) Compares risk with & without Covid infection
2) Adjusts for potential confounders

Is Study A or Study B at higher risk of confounding / bias?

Learning from variation
If we want to reduce patient complaints: which general practices could we learn from in this chart?
(Control limits at 4σ)
047 & 021 Maybe good practice we can copy?
027 & 018 Maybe doing something we should avoid?
Special cause variation: likely to be an assignable cause
