They spliced his Jan 6 speech so that his remarks about marching to the capital were immediately followed by his plea to fight, fight, fight to save the country when in fact the remarks were 45 minutes apart. But he definitely incited the riot that followed.

I just felt immense gratitude for what these men and women had given for me and my small children whose hands I held that little bit tighter. I wanted to tell each and every one of them how much I appreciated their sacrifices. I blamed the tears on the low sun!

However on this winter's day they marched once again. The only sound was the thump of their shoes on the cobbles and the tinkling of their medals banging together on their chests whilst they glinted in the wintry sunlight.

I am sure that in their mind's eye they could recall walking past the same buildings
being given a heroes farewell by their proud, tearful sweethearts and families as they left for the great adventure of a short, story book war that would see them returning before Christmas to a grateful country

Many first world war veterans were present. Now old men and shells of the young soldiers they had been nonetheless they straightened their backs and swung their arms as once again they marched with comrades present and gone before.

Looking at the service at the Cenotaph took me back to a time in the 70s when I took the kids to the Remembrance Service at St George's Hall in Liverpool. It was one of the most humbling and emotional days of my life.
