In Iki City, Nagasaki, Japan, efforts have begun to restore seaweed beds. This initiative has produced the largest quantity of credits in Japan outside of aquaculture through the thorough removal of seaweed-consuming fish. The national government is promoting "blue carbon" as a new carbon sink.
