A lovely thread about wellies! That's what social media should be used for! I can't recommend enough dirt boot wellies. Have them for 8 years this year. A lot of hunting and fishing trips in them including long walks and climbing steep hills. Just that funky camo worn off can't fault them otherwise.

I think this might be a bit harsh on Eoghan. Social media is a terrible filter through which people both present themselves and through which we tend to see them. As for the other person, I don't know them. Always giving the benefit of the doubt, and spouting silly opinions on socials is ubiquitous.

Maybe over a cup of coffee, yes. You seem to already have your strong opinions and here is not the place to try change/enhance them. Or at lease make them less strong.

I know that your heart is in the right place. Given the context thought, what you're saying makes no sense.

Not sure what's your weird point here, man.

I love this meme. 😆

Hey Katarzyna, I would love to chat with you about the impacts on wildlife at Poland's border on my podcast. Would you be interested in coming on for a chat? We could also touch on the issue of inaccuracies/misrepresentation of research by journalists.

I'm not sure he fully understands the meaning of the words he's using. 🤭

Oh yes, he's quite a character.

Taking Michael literally is a bit of a folly.

Oh dear. LLMs, which are not the same thing as AI, have so far failed to replace any jobs. And they are unlikely to, contrary to what hype men (and women) would like us to believe. Every single AI company is unprofitable, every single one is losing billions of dollars. The bubble will burst soon.

That's not accurate, although I agree with "fingers on the scales" argument - which is an entirely separate discussion. Those generalist predators are putting real and measurable pressure on other species that are in peril, species that were able to deal with eg foxes at lower densities for epochs.

It's true that lynx suppress fox population. For other people reading this though (I know, that you know), we don't even have the habitat for lynx to sustain themselves, never mind suppress the population of an abundant, generalist mesopredator like the fox.

Perhaps because the fish is so rare that people stopped talking about it. Also common names are mess. There are at least 7 species of fish called 'monkfish' most (all?) from in the genus Lophius. Angelshark is in the genus Squatina, so not even a true monkfish.

Nothing is perfect. I'm pretty sure though, that it's a net positive for nature.

Thanks for the kind words!

Showcasing angling as something positive is good. Might make more people to go outside with a rod and line and perhaps get them to care more about the environment. And if not that, they at least spend less time on socials subjecting themselves to brain rot.

Hello! It seems to me that your entire post is about the choice of words and semantics rather than the actual topic discussed here. Also, good to see you here!

I'm not sure what to make out of this post, Richard. I would love to see mainstream news trumpeting the killing of the biggest Red Deer. Arguably, even less damage to the environment. Ah! Those pesky anglers emptying the seas!
