Military History devotee of different eras.
And all round sports fan
Two cities that you happen to know oh so well.
The reconstruction of European cities, is another entire rabbit hole, for historians to look at.
Some cities did it better than others.
Given financial constraints post war, some took easier option in terms of architecture.

Thanks for taking time to give us all that info, Steve.
That the fire was reaching as far north as Whitecross St, shows how extensive its footprint was.
When I was a kid in the 70’s, our next door neighbour, was an auxiliary fireman during The Blitz.
Pumping water from Thames, when mains destroyed.

Eventually, over next 2/3 seasons when both are fully fit, they will able to play together very well.
They are the least of our problems.
With current squad, we can’t defend set pieces.
In a set piece obsessed league.
Bought the wrong physical type of player for domestic opponents

If it’s the one about the work around Boesinghe, then I remember it being excellent.
Haven’t seen it for about 15 years.
For someone just learning about WW1, it was an eye opener just how close together the trenches were in that area of the battlefield

I visited Prague Station in March.
And was pleased to see a statue honouring Sir Nicholas Winton.
Depicting him, with 2 of the Kinder Transport refugees & a case.
He was always humble enough to say, he’d got all the acclaim, because others involved, had passed away, when the full story became known

Well pointed out Alan.
Who thought 84 years on, we’d be hearing these words not in some far off, tin pot dictatorship.
But in the country that prided itself on its “ checks & balances “

Yeah I remember driving through there in the 80’s.
Unrecognisable now with its organ & flower stall.
Just shows how every step we take round Central London, has historical context.

“ Build it, and they will come “

Hi Steve, don’t know if it’s come across your radar, but there an exhibition on at The London Archives, 40 Northampton Rd EC1R 0HB
Till the 30th October “ London in the Second World War “

He gave him the 🟥 card in a split second.
Think he was all over the place, didn’t see him issue the one for Arne’s assistant

Four years for Putin to rearm, retrain.
And stock the Arsenal’s for part 3 of his Ukraine operation
Playing the long game.
You don’t negotiate with a tiger, whilst your head is in its mouth.

Never fancy us to keep a clean sheet in the real crunch matches now.
I know we did at Bournemouth & Brentford.
But inability to close out 2-1 v Utd & The Ev, means we’re never closing the door on it.
This will go right into May.

Excellent article Jonathan, learnt a lot of what makes him tick.
I thought following JK, would be difficult for ANYONE.
But when I read about Arne’s personality, in the summer.
Was dreaming of a Shankly - Paisley transition.
We’ll see ….

2-2.
I want to say Win.
But can see their set pieces giving us the shakes.
Especially if it’s blowing a storm.

We don’t have a big enough squad to bring the same intensity as the City game to every match.
When your playing weekend & midweek Champs Lge, something has to give.
Probably domestic cups.
Otherwise we’ll hit the wall March/April again.

I was in NY,NY for a week at the start of October, my cookies obviously gave my location.
But for weeks after it told me I was still in Manhattan.
I got never ending propaganda for his favoured candidate.
In the week before the election the pro DT & anti KH material was at fever pitch.

Summer 2023, seemed to be on a Boehly retainer.
Was constantly pumping out pro CFC material.
And seemed unusually “ briefed “ about their transfer plans.

I know everyone is slaughtering him, but he was bowled this googlie when he took over.
3 of the best players in their positions across football.
Who command & deserve top dollar.
One 32, one 33.
We’re all hoping for breakthroughs, & compromises.

Thanks for taking time to put 🧵 together.
Social media can be very informative, when done well.

I was brought up in the 70’s, with all the conspiracy docus about JFK’s assassination.
But I think as it’s been physically proven that Oswald could have done it alone, I think more now accept lone gunman theory.
But the incident seemed the launch point for conspiracy theories about everything since

Thanks for sharing your trip with us again.
Can only imagine how much prep & research you do to pull an adventure like that together.
Always fascinating & thought provoking.
Chapeau.

Hi Steve, nice seeing your content again, on this saner place.
My memory of early 1980’s, there was a post office branch in Fore St, that had “Here landed first bomb on City of London in WW2“ or the like.
As the branch has gone, so too has probably the stone marker.
Reminded me of Zeppelin in EC1
