Apparently military brass are now referring to Trump and Pete Hegseth as Fat Man and Little Boy after their weird, immature, ultimately despotic waste of time on Tuesday. If the shoe fits. But it's still terrifying these impulse-driven assholes have access to nuclear weapons.

Take a good look. This is the homepage of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development lying to you on your dime, blaming the "radical left" for the federal government shutdown despite the fact Republicans control THE ENTIRE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. This goes beyond autocracy straight to 1984.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Get familiar with it.

Congratulations America, your country has been stolen from you. While this may not be the end, we have no choice but to go forward as loudly and uncompliantly as possible. Military, politicians, museum curators, everyone: STOP complying in advance. STOP complying with madness. STOP COMPLYING.

This Wednesday is the 60th anniversary of LBJ signing the Voting Rights Act into law. The Act prohibits racial discrimination in voting and is clearly still needed today, especially with Texas' mid-decade redistricting push — but the Act was largely dismantled by the Roberts Supreme Court in 2013.

In 1938 Great Depression photographer Dorothea Lange snapped this photo of a Kern County gas station with a warning we Americans failed to heed 90 years later in 2024 when the idiocracy, by a tiny margin, handed our country over to the "big men," i.e. the oligarchs FDR had so successfully defeated.

Just a reminder to the idiots at the Democratic Party who think this is how you frame an effective appeal. Stop recycling subject lines from 2024 and start promoting quality candidates, and get them in front of people, NOW. You know, INSPIRE voters. Then maybe we'll fund candidates, not the party.

Congressional Republicans just voted to decimate National Parks to pay for billions of dollars in tax cuts for psychopath billionaires like Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and others. They haven't just slashed budgets, they've cratered National Parks to the point where they can barely function.

The Republican public lands selloff is BACK. Hey Senator Mike Lee, what the hell did we just say? NO public lands sales. No compromise. Not today. Not ever. Don't expect We the People to subsidize mega-estates and massive hunting and game preserves for billionaires or tech tyrants. DEFEAT THE BILL.

Trump and Netanyahu are alike in they're war-mongering, repressive fascists, but they're also alike in that they need to remain in office to stay out of jail. For Netanyahu, that means keeping Israel in a state of permanent war. Only a jackass like Trump would handcuff our country to this asshole.

No light between us and @padilla.senate.gov today. Thank you sir for courageously doing your job, asking questions, and standing for our democracy. This FASCIST and AUTHORITARIAN regime must be brought to a swift end, and the American people must SEE IT THROUGH with the rule of law and democracy.

Today, and the days that follow, may well determine the survival of American democracy as we've known it for 250 years, or mark its end with tyranny. If you're issued an immoral order that goes against your oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, call the G.I. Rights Hotline at 1 (877) 447-4487.

If Operation Overlord had failed and the Allies were thrown back into the sea, it could've resulted in the exit of the U.S. from the Allied effort to focus solely on the Pacific, and possibly even the Soviet Union making a separate peace with Germany. We take for granted that D-Day was a success.

It's maddening how capable local TV news stations treat the "Trump presidency" as though it wasn't a malevolent undoing of American democracy, populated with utter incompetents in the service of the Kremlin. How do you call yourselves "journalists" and remain so wilfully fucking blind to reality?

Disgraceful that Alex Padilla and John Hickenlooper will deliver the awful "Fix Our Forests Act" (FOFA) to Trump's doorstep. From L.A. to Paradise, wildfires don't kill people in forests, but in urban wildfires hundreds of miles from forests. Democrats, STOP drinking this anti-conservation Kool-Aid.

You know it Richard, there's my New Wave misspent youth! I had both of RTB's post-Cars 1982 production entries on vinyl with Oh No It's Devo and Cheap Trick's One on One. He went into a bit of a hiatus after those records.

Yeah, that first Cars album is loaded. RTB applied his Queen and Journey stacked harmony technique, bulked up an already strong set of songs, and made New Wave radio friendly. Solid material on Candy-O too, just not quite classics. My New Wave misspent youth still loves those 70s Queen albums too.

Sad to learn of the death of Roy Thomas Baker at 78, who produced dozens of smash albums in the 70s and 80s. While his legacy will be his work on Queen's early albums, his production credits ran the gamut from Devo, The Cars, The Stranglers, and yes, Caddyshack fans, Hilly Michaels. tiny.cc/or1i001

For all your Earth Day needs. On the job at Federation Forest near Mt. Rainier with Washington State Parks a few years ago. Never stop hugging trees. Never quit your appreciation for nature. Take it from a guy who produced a program called Treehuggers International: never give up, never surrender.

Trump's minions project such weird, insecure masculinity. That the BLM has to add a ridiculous, juvenile soccer cheer hashtag like #TimberDominance to a breakdown of O and C Lands timber revenue is bizarre. Everything has to be about fucking the other party over, even if that other party is nature.

Poet Theodore Roethke wrote these lines shortly before his death in 1963 upon the introduction of the Wilderness Act into Congress. "What there is, is all we will ever have. It is only as safe as people, knowing about it, want it to be." Photo from just below the summit of the Santa Rosa Mountains.

The Bedford Flag is the oldest surviving flag in U.S. history, and is said to have been flown at the Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, which marked the beginning of the American Revolution. The Latin motto Vince Aut Morire was the inspiration for Patrick Henry's "Liberty or Death."

And just like that, the state media sycophants at Fox News have removed the Dow ticker from their screen as stocks crater from Trump's new tariffs. Because if the ticker is gone, the crash didn't happen. And sadly, because Fox News knows its audience won't notice or ever question its absence.

"Hey, it's Pete. Guess what? We're going to attack the ball-bearing factories at Schweinfurt and Regensburg in the same raid with two forces. And no fighter escort! The Nazis will never expect us to fly so deep into Germany! Boy are we going to surprise them! We're so badass. High-fiving you bro!"
