100% Israel will announce a ceasefire in the next few weeks (but keep bombing) and the UK will say this is a success and then not recognise Palestine.

The ship has passed the point where the previous expedition of the Madleen was hijacked by the Israeli navy last month.

Unsurprisingly, like many, I've joined the Greens and will be voting for @zackpolanski.bsky.social for leader.

Labour acts as a Reform-lite, and is laying the groundwork for a far-right takeover of the UK. The Greens, under Zack, open up a credible opposition to fight for people and the climate.

Trying to find some average cost figures for large-scale batteries in Europe. Find a page that looks very boring but maybe has the info.

Nope.

They're even AI generating fake charts nows. Fake, illegible data.

Last month solar power alone was the highest generator of electricity in the EU at 22.1%

On the flip side, coal was at its lowest ever - only 6.1%.

This comes after new records for wine the last month.

It’s clear clear that our future is renewable

Solar becomes EU’s largest electricity source for the first time
The Netherlands and Greece were the top solar record setters, while wind power also hit new highs in May and June.

French-owned EDF is considering selling its renewable assets (apart from hydro) as it looks to invest in new nuclear.

EDF faces significant financial difficulties, partially linked to its ageing nuclear fleet. Rather than turn to cheap renewables, they double down.

And people saying you can’t win elections on the climate
climate & energy angle: Mamdani won his first election by fewer than 500 votes. The key issue differentiating him from the incumbent - the centerpiece of his campaign - was his opposition to a new gas power plant in the district.

After the election he worked with the whole community to stop it.

Popped out in my lunch break join the protest outside of the EU Commission. 🇵🇸

Israel and the US have started a new war with Iran, which could lead to millions of deaths and nuclear proliferation. The genocide in Gaza continues.

We need sanctions, arms embargo, EU-Israel agreements ripped up.

Another friendly reminder that nuclear power isn’t fit for a warming world.

This decision is poor on two fronts.

£2.5 billion taken away from cheap, fast renewables towards expensive, slow and untested “small” nuclear.

And GBE was meant to own and operate the power! Why is it now just an investment vehicle for the private sector?

All those involved are incredibly brave.

We must pressure our governments to ensure those remaining in Israel are released and cleared of any “wrong doing”, as they have acted lawfully.

Beyond that, our governments should be sending boats of aid and breaking the illegal siege of Gaza.

The EU Commission argued that countries are close to meeting climate and energy targets, but we don’t believe it. The plans are barely plans, and where’s the money?

Wow - research for @bund.net finds that the German gov's push for 20GW of gas plants could cost up to €32.4bn 🤯

If paid for via a levy on energy bills, this would act as a double-blow for bill payers – who would also be locked into volatile gas prices for decades to come 💸

Very exciting to see projects like this getting off the ground. Ireland is the perfect place to start demonstrating the necessity of long duration energy storage, to capture all that wind!

Good thing about iron-air storage is the materials are cheap, non-toxic, and recyclable.
An exciting battery project - based on rusting iron! - is being developed in Donegal, one of Ireland's most remote outposts.

It's a new ultra long-duration energy storage tech, and the subject of my latest column:
