My point was it's okay to lie to children but adults have some special truth privileges our kids don't get for some reason. I have to assume the intent was to give her joy.

You're right about values. Imagine millions of parents lying to their children about a magical elf who works for Santa, who delivers presents for all the children in the world. But using evil AI to make Granny feel joy is too far. I don't agree with either, but I don't see one worse than the other.
