My fiancée’s father, pictured here, knew the Dionne quintuplets.
His father, Ildor Joyal, was their doctor after Dafoe left the scene. He was also the doctor of the other Dionne children. He did not monetize his connection with the family.

I didn’t know either, but apparently he teaches here, at UofT. I would presume it’s part time?

Amazing sports books (with one adventure book thrown in). Highly recommend the Pete Rose bio and the Ben Johnson story. Melissa Ludte autobiography is excellent.

Loggins & McDonald are both very likeable and committed to their music.
- Mellencamp is also deeply committed, but an absolute tyrant about it.
- The Zeppelin bio is thrilling, especially in describing the early years. However, at least 1 member plus their manager should have been in prison.

Okay, I lied… #1 is Dorothy Parker. Maybe the wittiest and most acerbic journalist ever.
“The Boys” by Ron Howard is entertaining.
Someone gave me the Myers book, but when I discovered it as an audiobook, I dove in. Absolutely worth it. VERY funny, VERY Canadian. Mike loves this country.

If you like “Virginia Wolf” (play or movie) or Liz & Dick, listen to this book!
The Ed Zwick book is amazing (the Julia Roberts/ “Shakespeare In Love” part is wildly entertaining).
If I could meet 1 person from the past? Elaine May, One of the smartest and funniest people to walk the earth.

The Griffin Dunne memoir covers the incredible history of his family.
I can’t imagine a more perfect memoir than Michelle Obama’s. And that voice!
Geddy’s bio is great fun to listen to. The loss of Neil Peart is beautifully conveyed.
Lisa Marie Presley’s bio is ultimately heartbreaking.

If you thought people were pissed about corporate greed in 2024, check out “The Infernal Machine”, where people were trying to blow up the robber barons in the late 1800’s. It also covers the history of dynamite (originally known as “Nobel’s Safety Powder”) and the rise of the anarchist movement.

Hard to choose a favourite here, but the books in the middle row were best.
- Chaplin bio is incredible, albeit maddening as right wing zealots chase him from America

Most maddening: Tarantino. Like his films, flashes of brilliance mixed with infuriating journeys up his own, well you get my point.

Small haul this year, but I’m looking forward to reading all of ‘em.
