I wrote this because I’ve really been struggling with doing the right thing lately. It’s been really easy to get bogged down and angry and obsessive about the news lately.
I am choosing mercy Not because they deserve it They most certainly do not But because if I don’t All this hate will eat me up Until there is nothing left And I will become no different than them Some wicked shambling thing Ruled only by bloodlust I am choosing mercy To get rid of this feeling in my chest To allow myself the permission to ignore them To build a better world And help those who deserve my help I am choosing mercy But that does not mean I have turned away from justice Nor does it mean that I am choosing apathy But they are no longer welcome in The temple that is my heart They have chosen to be on the outside Because they have chosen not to have mercy
