Ukraine is not part of NATO. I would think she would know this. Maybe she isn't aware of the support from Europe? If so, The Economist might do better vetting their guests.

From my humor WIP...
Jim Shock was busy reading the various sorghum news stories on the web while trying to figure if people truly enjoyed Turkish coffee. It’s just mud flavored coffee! The sorghum story was just starting to hit. There were a few conspiracies about it showing up in the usual places. The New York Times had an interview with the Secretary of the Interior dismissing all of those by explaining how most of those articles can’t even spell “sorghum.” With an answer like that, Jim knew it was serious. The BBC had a list of recipe substitutes for Celiac sufferers. Jim was getting even more worried. The Economist had a 14 page article investigating the effect of this shortage on various political parties throughout the world. Al Jazeera was in Sudan reviewing the crop yields. The New York Post had a story about how the shortage would cure Celiacs disease. And, CNN had a very good story that no one else would read because it opened with a picture of a woman with her dead cat.

Not sure this applies, but this is from my humor fictional novel in progress:
Buried deep in the Johnson-Reed Act in 1924 was a little known provision. The aim was to investigate unsavory immigrants and most of those ended up in agriculture. So, a paragraph was added to give the US Department of Agriculture the policing authority it absolutely needed, without respect of borders. Thus was born the bad men of agriculture: the Farmer’s Rangers. This was where Jim Shock worked and lived. He knew the history of this group. It had started as all government agencies started: it was a home for political favors, families, and friends. The first 50 years were filled with outright graft and corruption. This guaranteed heavy funding and absolutely no oversight. Then came “Joe.” By a fault in the timeline of the universe, Joe Gunsel was appointed to head this department by his senator brother. No one could have foreseen this layabout waste of breath finding his calling here and actually transforming it into a secret crime fighting agency that even the CIA and FBI would only refer to in hushed tones. The senator spoke from his jail cell about how amazed he was that his brother became a world guardian.

From my WIP humor novel:
The South African, Enzokuhle Jones, achieved temporary wealth in conflict diamonds. Well, not him… his family. Enzoh was away on a golf trip when the revolt at the mine occurred. You would think the guards would be more careful about social media posts, but satirizing the miner’s dance video was definitely a mistake. The family kept a veneer of wealth by reputation: people THOUGHT they were rich. Turns out, this is a great way to live a good life. People keep giving you money because you had it at one time. Politicians write laws to get you money, local businesses award you contracts, and book publishers are all-in on how you made your missing treasure.
