Love those satellite map posters. A great blend of science and art. We have a nice one from our home area (Finger Lakes Region of upstate NY).

Congratulations and best of luck. Always a nice feeling the day a submission is sent in.

The success rate of clinical trials is already painfully low, for reasons we all understand. Adding more uncertainty to the process is the last thing we need to keep these studies moving forward.

Always loved this one from the 80's.

Never met a pizza I didn't like. Favorite meal that includes all 4 food groups. Simply perfect.

I guess it's too much to ask for reasonable follow-up questions that might wipe that smarmy smirk off his face.

No issues with the Spectrum stream here in Western NC.

And of course, no mention of the boos by the US announcers. They knew that the unaltered audio and response would be posted almost immediately, yet chose to comply, for their audience of one.

Spot on. I wonder if it bugs the athletes. Seems hard to ignore or filter out at such a close distance. They're probably used to it now, at least I hope so.

The Newsroom hit so many storylines right on the nose. 15 years old, and still very relevant.

Kinda missed his calling as a tennis player. Two who didn't: Tennys Sandgren and Katie Volynets.

Really glad to see some of the Team USA athletes speaking out. They know that the booing was not directed at them.

We loved the Sunday Trib when we lived in the far north suburbs. Top tier writing and reporting, back then anyway (mid 80s to mid 90s).

I'm sure they heard some booing, and also know that was not directed at them. Looking forward to seeing how they all do in their competitions. Something positive on TV, for 2 weeks anyway.
February 7, 2026 at 3:50 AM
Most here in the US won't see it until the prime time re-broadcast that just started. And I'm sure they'll hear almost no booing again, if any.
February 7, 2026 at 1:27 AM
The lead presenter (Terry Gannon) did mention that the crowd had been asked by the PA announcer not to boo when the US Olympians entered the stadium, and made it seem like they complied, which clearly was not the case based on the other video feed (UK?).

I watched on Peacock/NBC and the booing was not nearly as evident, maybe even overdubbed with cheers to muffle the jeering.

Perfectly stated.

Feckless is a perfect descriptor, spot on for both sides of the aisle.

The only thing he's ever said that I agree with is "don't take medical advice from me".

The king of "what's ...". Haven't watched for a while, may need to restart.

A lot of really good players didn't make the cut for Milan. Going to be a great tournament. Surprised the Russians are still banned.

Exactly right. Most are hopelessly gone, unless they are personally affected by his actions. Even then, it's a long shot that they change. There's always a rationale, misguided for sure but acceptable enough to them.

Grew up devouring sports writing from Shirley and his contemporaries, and learned valuable lessons on composition, storytelling, and brevity from these wonderful historians. Your quote above is a perfect example of how they could encapsulate so much meaning in just a few words.

Sadly, it's been this way forever, and there's little chance it will change any time soon. GMs are under pressure to get "their guy" and will bend or break the contact rules to do so. The teams leak info to the media when it's close to a done deal. Good news is it's usually not a major distraction.
