We will have a next admin. It won’t be easy, but too many people are gearing up for the fight of their lives, which it will be. But in the end, we will drive out the fascists; we will have a next admin!

This is just hastening the demise of broadcast media. It’s blatantly wrong, but… who gets their news from CBS anymore?! That makes it hard for me to be too worked up about it…

Just... oy.

Dana fucking WHITE?!

Good god. Zuck's just full-on MAGA now, innit he...

Gosh, it's almost like when you say "cities are for people, not cars," great things start happening.

It's like magic! If only we could find the cause... ;)

They call it censorship when we say things like "no, imgratnts are not eating pets en masse."

But when we say simple "facts" like "Mark Zuckerberg has a rat penis," suddenly they're all for censorship ;)

There are multiple ways to win a war; attrition is a tried and true tactic. Troll the trolls.

I see what you did there.

I approve.

Not too hard. The biggest thing is making the distributed protocol work correctly so it doesn't require a single big entity (e.g. vector of control) to be in charge.

I could help. I know tons about this kind of stuff... But I'm a working stiff, so I don't have endless time.

I'm a coder with decades of experience (and basically every language; current fave: Rust), and lots of knowledge of things like open protocols/AuthN and AuthZ, and so on. I'd like to help, if there are any open source projects I can contrib to.

It's important that this be a teachable moment, and we all learned the important lesson:

NEVER TRUST BIG BUSINESS AGAIN. Trust, but verify -- and all that. They truly don't give a shit about you.

Yeah, that gets overlooked a lot. He helped (sorry, Winklevoss...) build it because he was a creepy kid who wanted to get laid and thought borderline stalking was the way.

Now he's a creepy middle aged man. I don't know anything about his sex life but Zuck is still creepy as fuck.

Because it's not like those "extreme edge cases" have ever come true.

Oh, wait... this happens every. Single. Day. One rhetorical strategy I see all the time now is... gaslighting.

At the end of the day, I think it's a mistake to ever expect a millionaire or a billionaire to "do the right thing." It's easy to forget, these are POD PEOPLE, not humans...
January 8, 2025 at 4:13 PM
Yeah, it's just so contentious to actually punish people when they commit egregious crimes. It can lead to hard feelings and resentment on the part of the criminals; instead let's say "ahhh, it's okay, never mind."

Let's see how well THAT works.

Read Ed Zitron. I beg of you. He explains precisely how we got here from there, and the analysis ain't pretty.

Side note: he's also right that when the AI hype bubble pops (it's already starting to), it may well destroy tech, and the economy. Fun, fun, fun when the oligarchs own everything...
