Unfortunately, the unintended consequence of this efficacy is that people in my neighborhood have strings of 200 or more outdoor lights that they keep on all night. The light pollution is disrupting the ecology of nocturnal animals and interfering with star gazing. Also, see Jevon's Paradox.
