E.g., even if a company is well aware we'll pay $10 for a $5 product if given no alternative, they can't increase the price because they'll be undercut by a competitor, whose profit-maximising move is to do so, as opposed to selling it for the same price. It's the same situation as a sales tax cut.

Shrinkflation is no different from typical inflation, which isn't really relevant here. I'm saying that if a tariff is removed, prices will go down accordingly, assuming we're not talking about a monopolistic market. Producers can't pocket the tax cut or they'll be undercut by someone who doesn't.

If corporations could charge higher prices without losing business, they'd already be doing so. Competition drives them to operate at reasonable profit margins, lest they be undercut by competitors.

Right? The group of people they hate and blame for high prices clearly doesn't want supply to increase, but a good portion of leftists still refuse to believe that increasing supply would help. My bet is those hate capitalism more than they hate housing crises, they want to be mad, not solutions.

Seems like we could have cheaper bicycles, if it weren't for protectionism.
EU extends tariffs on Chinese bicycles, fearing import flood
The European Union has extended for a further five years anti-dumping duties on Chinese bicycles, the bloc said in its official journal on Thursday, after concluding that any lifting of measures would lead to a flood of imports.
