I haven't been posting on @bsky.app for a long time. That may change now. For months I've concentrated on Twitter. But all social media needs to be used by #DemocraticSocialist's. If you're one, then join the new party by @zarahsultana.bsky.social & @jeremycorbyn.bsky.social.

I know some TUSC/Transform members are on BlueSky. If they agree with my gloomy assessment of their prospects in May's local elections, why are they standing? I know why they'll suffer. Do they? If they don't, I can tell them what they're doing wrong. There is so much to say. Defend yourselves!

If socialists help deliver an MP for the pro-capitalist Greens in #Runcorn, we'll have created a huge obstacle for ourselves in future first-past-the-post elections. We'll be told to stop splitting the 'left' vote. It's socialism barbarism, comrades. Never forget that. #UniteTheSocialists
April 4, 2025 at 12:47 AM
I predict Collective's leadership will boast about campaigning for the Greens in #Runcorn. I'd rather they won than Starmer or Farage or any of the rest. But they're still just another pro-capitalist party. If they sweep up our part of the protest vote, socialists have shot ourselves in the foot.
April 4, 2025 at 12:43 AM
Why am I angry TUSC/Transform/Collective now boycott the #Runcorn by-election? They all know that if Starmer's left flank isn't exposed there, the seat falls to Nigel Farage, probably with a MASSIVE swing. And that gives the MSM all the excuse they need to gag every socialist. What about the Greens?
April 4, 2025 at 12:40 AM
The Dignity Declaration, alongside JC and another of his 5 MPs, as well as 2 Labour members suspended from the PLP, is fronted by one of the Green co-leaders. Do I regret that? No. Coordination of motions/amendments with Greens and SNP is acceptable, imho. Socialists can join both. That does matter.
April 4, 2025 at 12:36 AM
If I lived in #Runcorn and there's no socialist candidate I'd spoil my ballot, possibly encouraging others to do the same. That said, I think most socialists will, reluctantly vote Green as the best available, much better than Starmer or Farage, which isn't saying much. #UniteTheSocialists
April 4, 2025 at 12:31 AM
Both on BlueSky and Twitter over the last few days I've said some harsh things about the Greens. I need to clarify what I mean. My guess is Collective/TUSC/Transform will sit out the #Runcorn by-election. I think it's obvious each will explicitly or implicitly lend support to the Greens. Will I? No.
April 4, 2025 at 12:28 AM
There's a real chance that 30 SCG MPs may lose the whip, becoming a coherent independent group, alongside Jeremy Corbyn's 5-strong group. This could prove a nightmare for Keir Starmer if he miscalculates who the losers will be if he expels these MPs. He'll give birth to the #SocialistCampaignParty.
April 3, 2025 at 11:29 PM
Burgon and Byrne lost the whip for 6 months for voting against a 3-Line whip, then did it again. Despite that, both got the whip back after 6 months. Now both insist they'll vote against again. Starmer could say it's 3 strikes and you're out: he may expel these repeat offenders, and Zarah & Apsana
April 3, 2025 at 11:20 PM
I bet it's too late for TUSC/Transform to announce a #Runcorn by-election candidate. If so, I make a prediction: Owen Jones and Andrew Feinstein will justify Collective's negligence by endorsing the Greens. That's not good enough. It will just erect another barrier to a new socialist party.
April 3, 2025 at 9:43 PM
Maybe Owen Jones and Andrew Feinstein will announce a Collective-endorsed socialist will challenge Starmer, Farage, and every pro-capitalist party. Otherwise, they can bin their We Demand Change rhetoric. When push comes to shove, they're helping Farage build his "They Ain't Welcome Here!" fascists
April 3, 2025 at 9:36 PM
I don't blame Zarah Sultana for not endorsing a #Runcorn candidate. There's no one socialists can back. But Andrew Feinstein & Owen Jones could have used their power within Collective to ensure it wasn't just Nigel Farage who'd exploit Keir Starmer's justified unpopularity. What's THEIR excuse?
April 3, 2025 at 9:14 PM
Owen Jones, Andrew Feinstein and dozens of trade union leaders who backed Starmer's candidates last July say they demand change. That's a shit demand without saying what kind, how to achieve it, the direction, the pace, etc. Otherwise, it's as meaningless as Starmer or Farage's bullshit. #Runcorn?
April 3, 2025 at 9:09 PM
There is a new grouping associated with Owen Jones called We Demand Change. I signed their petition, but have grave misgivings about this project. I think socialists need to discuss strategy and tactics, and how to minimize pointless duplication among socialists at the ballot box. Btw,... #Runcorn?
April 3, 2025 at 9:05 PM
In the late 1970s, early 1980s, every 'Trotskyist' group, with a couple of exceptions, 'entered' Labour. Some behaved better than others. But Kinnock, and Foot before him, purged the lot. Today is the 100th anniversary of Tony Benn's birth. Let's agree with him that these purges were always wrong.
April 3, 2025 at 7:51 PM
Tony Benn insisted there are too many socialist parties and not enough socialists. At the time, I disagreed with his point. But I've changed my mind, especially today. TUSC/Transform are one party too many. If there's a #SocialistCampaignParty, let all socialists join. No purges. No sectarian splits
April 3, 2025 at 7:35 PM
If up to 30 SCG MPs lose the whip for voting against a 3 Line whip in support of Reeves' cuts, there will build a momentum for most of the being expelled. If that happens, nothing will stop the creation of a #SocialistCampaignParty, one that will crush Starmer's candidates at the ballot box. Agreed?
April 3, 2025 at 7:27 PM
Mick Lynch would probably join a #SocialistCampaignParty, and hopefully want to stand as a candidate, hopefully being elected soon in a by-election. Even before that he'd make a good part of the SCP's collective leadership. So, obviously, would Dave Nellist, whose experience as an MP is invaluable.
April 3, 2025 at 2:43 PM
The SCP needs a collective leadership, but also a Prime Ministerial candidate, our main spokesperson. I'd vote for Zarah Sultana as nominal leader. Among the collective leadership, I'd add Jeremy Corbyn, Apsana Begum, Diane Abbott, whoever else proves themselves best within the SCG, but also non MPs
April 3, 2025 at 2:39 PM
I don't know if the party will be called the #SocialistCampaignParty. But if it's set up by expelled SCG MPs that's a logical name, at least initially. When members queue up to join, then we can all democratically vote on what the name should be. I'd be happy with SCP. I'd vote for Zarah as leader.
April 3, 2025 at 2:35 PM
If expelled SCG MPs form a #SocialistCampaignParty, they'll need to let SCG MPs who don't join initially to do so belatedly. More importantly, every single socialist who wants to join MUST be allowed to do so. The alternative is incentivizing sectarians to split the left vote; only MI5 wants that.
April 3, 2025 at 2:32 PM
If Starmer's problems escalate, the PLP may dump him, replacing him with someone who won't stop the damage significantly. Then it's likely that the party will fragment many times over, making a coalition govt quite likely even before a general election. One fragment will be a #SocialistCampaignParty
April 3, 2025 at 1:34 PM
While I think many SCG MPs who promise to vote against Reeves cuts, knowing they'd lose the whip, my fear is some will run away from the fight. Having said that, the vote will take place after #Runcorn and May's local elections. That incentivizes SCG MPs not to fear losing the whip. That's a plus.
April 3, 2025 at 1:29 PM
I have set out a scenario that may need to be amended in small, or quite large, respects. I do think the vote on Reeves cuts will trigger the formation of a semi-permanent independents group in parliament based on SCG MPs. As they are expelled, one by one, the day of a new left party draws closer.
