It’ll be the air traffic controllers who end this. Just like they ended the last one. Flights are going to be canceled starting Friday. This is going to end real quick once US airspace starts to shut down.

This is a key point we forget sometimes. It sounds hokey like “one weird trick” but it also happens to be true: the electorate isn’t static; it changes, and a politician with the right skills can change the electorate *in their favor* by speaking to their issues, or at least by not abandoning them.

Ah, but the rub here is that 🍊cannot, under the US constitution, unilaterally impose *taxes* either, even under an “emergency”. That power lies solely with congress. If the fed society six have serious constitutional minds they will reject 🍊 ‘s bonkers assertion that his tariffs are above board.

Yes, I was pretty sure it was 18 but I hadn’t used that feature in so long that I gave an approximate time and looked up the actual time period later. Can’t believe those things were used for 31 years.

The UL MetroCard could be used only 1x/20 minutes at the same station or on the same bus. You could swipe in one other person for free when leaving a bus or station. W/OMNY, one can tap in unlimited numbers of riders when the fare cap hits. I liked the mo. ULMC for the other reasons you mentioned.

In my college freshman year writing class, the first assignment my professor gave us was to interview a relative who was alive during WW2. I interviewed my paternal grandmother and that was a transformative experience for me. There is definitely something to be said about the wisdom of our elders.

When I was in HS in the early ‘90s, my 11th grade US History teacher showed us grainy film of US soldiers in WW2 liberating concentration camps & filming the mass graves outside of them. After I watched that footage of bodies stacked 20+ ft deep, no one could ever turn me into a holocaust denier.

I call this the “Grandparent effect”. Once the people who remember the big, terrible thing have passed on, their grandchildren and great grandchildren forget the reasons why we got into the big, terrible thing in the first place and the cycle repeats after about 80-100 years.

Exactly. Aren’t the SNAP EBT cards and the network that processes payments from EBT cards programmed to decline purchases from ineligible categories of merchandise/services/merchants (that would include hair salons)?
