Being just… window dressing, for a world that can’t change. This was fine in the NES-GBA era, or even the DS era, but they should be more now than just a way to set up who marries who in the epilogue. The way it is now makes “character development” just another collectable, and nothing more. 8/9

From each support conversation to actually clear up the knot of suspicion and anger at the heart of so much of the conflict! Or even to have characters start to have dialogue with you in the overworld that reflects the increased bonds between you! Or something! Instead the supports end up 7/?

Before it becomes meaningless. And then, the scant information you get from the conversations is irrelevant outside of them! Fire Emblem Three Houses is the biggest offender on this! After finishing all three routes, I was all but begging for a route where you used the information 6/

It makes all the relationships equally bland. I felt the same way about some Fire Emblem games; when the player character is basically a blank slate, “relationship conversations” can’t be really about anything meaningful. Characters can only say “I feel so comforted to have you by my side” 5/?

We got a ton of homosexual undertones as the conversations were almost solely about “how wonderful it is to be close with each other as honorable warriors. And friends. That are very intimate.” Which is fine if that’s what you’re going for! But when all the conversations are about that, 4/?

What do I mean? Dynasty Warriors Origins was a fascinating chance to have one character interacting with all the factions. Conversations could have been about how the war is going, what current motivations are, and how friendship is tested by shifting loyalty. Instead… 3/?

You need to do two things: write better conversations that are relevant to your situation in game, and have those conversations have impacts on the relationships between characters outside of the alternate world you apparently have the conversation in. 2/?
