It’s from “Robin Hood”, popular operetta opened in Boston in 1890. Julie Andrews sang it in “S.O.B.” What about “Because”? (1902) predates the Perry Como and Mario Lanza recordings. Not casting a vote for either treacly ballad. Stick to Mendelssohn and Wagner.
