Unilateral Work

Most clients are strong on two legs, but fall apart when asked to do single leg movements.

Chris spent a good amount of time working on getting his injured leg to be as strong as his healthy leg.

Quad, Glute & Hamstring Strengthening

Upon initial testing, Chris needed work in getting his quads, glutes and hamstrings stronger.

This helped me squat without pain and get back to the court with improved confidence.

Plyometrics

Most people are surprised when they see plyos as part of a rehab plan.

Chris started doing these 3 weeks into working together and never looked back.

Isometrics

Isometrics are the easiest way to start rehabbing a major injury like a meniscus tear.

Chris found a few that he liked and used them to get his pain under control.

A meniscus tear can keep you inactive for 6+ months.

After tearing his meniscus, my client Chris reached out for help.

He didn’t have six months to be better.

Was it possible for Chris to heal his knee before his season started?

Here is everything he did to get back on the court:

For 99% of adults, the gym is a means to an end.

Your rehab and training need to push you towards your end goals:

Eliminating knee pain.
Hitting the golf ball farther.
Running a faster half marathon.

Make every second in the gym count towards something meaningful TO YOU.

If you hate cardio but want to live longer (and healthier):

Two 90 minute hikes per week does wonders.

You will be shocked how fast the time flies by.

Top 3 trigger of rotator cuff related pain:

Sleeping on the injured side.

Hard to get good sleep when your shoulder is on fire.

Rehab will fix this, so you can start sleeping like a baby.

"I've tried everything to heal my shoulder."

Man, I feel you when on that.

It probably feels like there is no hope for you.

But I promise you....there is a solution to your problem.

Keep digging.

How To Treat Rotator Cuff Pain

Therabands? No.
Rest and Ice? No.
Cortisone? No.

Bingo.

"My back pain will never go away."

Never is a long time, man.

I know your feelings are real and your symptoms are a nightmare.

But let's get you moving and see if you feel better.

"But my doctor said I have shoulder impingement and need surgery ASAP!?!"

Slow down brother.

Let's start with a little exercise.

You might be surprised how far we get.

If you are sick and tired of shoulder pain and your current rehab program isn't doing the job, you might want to switch things up and start attacking the rotator cuff muscles.

You might just be surprised how good your shoulder starts to feel.

But does it actually work?

I've worked with 200+ shoulder patients the last few years and many of them have a similar story to Bill's.

And all it takes is a few simple exercises, a little bit of time and some trust in the process.

A lot of shoulder programs start with the end in mind:

- Thoracic Mobility Drills
- Upper Back Strengthening
- Modalities for Pain

But they completely skip over the fundamental issue of making making sure shoulder rehab addresses the actual shoulder.

The rotator cuff muscles also keep the head of your humerus centered in the shoulder joint.

Think of golf ball sitting on a tee.

The ball has to stay centered on the tee, otherwise the whole operation falls apart.

Which leads right into why many shoulder programs miss the mark...
November 14, 2024 at 5:38 PM
As your deltoid is the primary driver for lifting your arm overhead, your rotator cuff muscles need to pull the humerus in and down to keep your arm moving in a smooth pattern.

Without this smooth pattern, it's easy to feel pain and clicking in your shoulder.

Which leads to another point....

When you think of the rotator cuff muscles, you think of tiny muscles helping your arm rotate towards your belly and reach behind your back.

But there is actually a more important role for them to play in shoulder health...

If I've seen it once, I've seen it a thousand times.

Too many rehab programs miss the most important part of shoulder rehab:

Strengthening the rotator cuff muscles.

Here's why these 4 little muscles are important 🧵:

“But Zone 2 work is so boring!”

Go hike in a foreign country (or your local state park).

Get on the treadmill with NFL RedZone on the TV.

Go on a bike ride with your spouse.

There are infinite ways to make it less boring.

"I don't want surgery."

Great news...you don't have to get surgery for a meniscus tear.

In fact, there is a good chance you get a better outcome with rehab than surgery.

So let's start with rehab and see what happens.
