It’s paint without or with low metallic content so it looks flatter, it’s also cheaper for the auto makers, and sold as an upgrade color!
I would also get it on a truck cuz it looks great :)

You aren’t wrong about performance, but, like all things game dev there are tradeoffs. Landscapes have some advantages, especially for gameplay design, layered materials and interop with other systems like PCG. And after being converted to Nanite and cooked are similar in overhead to Static Meshes.

This is excellent and you're a hero for uncovering it, but isn't fully baked quite yet. It looks like Virtual Textures don't quite support this features yet and is likely why it's not enabled by default. (Thanks, Adam!)

Try turning the glass shadows off, or setting the glass actor to not be visible in ray tracing. You can also try adjusting the reflection and refraction bounces in your Post Processing. Good luck!
