I see a press too often trying to score cheap points, seeking salacious gossip and reframing whatever you hear to support preset editorial narratives. too often the UK media tries to create news instead of reporting news. it's hard to see this as journalism that serves me.

you are, after all, the party who include among their economic acts giving away our creative industry's entire body of work to foreign based businesses who don't pay tax... genius!
December 20, 2025 at 11:40 AM
an economist should recognise that the balance between business, state and people has been lost and the party we elected to fix this, your good selves, are failing to take corrective action while the trend continues. when mainstream parties let people down they turn elsewhere.

i searched for Trump and an ICE team landed on our front lawn... in Wiltshire... something's up...

and yes, for the serious types, i did make this up. No-one can afford a front lawn any more.

i'm not a lawyer so anything else here is probably nonsense but....

surely he only has a claim if the US electorate all saw the show which would mean each voting adult owes the BBC £1,000 or the US owes us £152bn. We'll pay him the £10bn if they pay us the £152bn in fines.

when you put it like that she doesn't sound ideal :)

but that still leaves a few hundred possibilities who might show up and actually do the damn job.

Thangam would gave been solid I think. Don’t know enough about her sex work opinions to have an opinion. I can appreciate Nandy’s preferred brief lay elsewhere but if you get given a ministerial role surely you give it your all or you resign and let someone else take a swing at it.
December 13, 2025 at 10:53 PM
meanwhile the mystery of what on earth Lisa Nandy is paid for continues.

i'm sorry, but i'll be busy gouging out my own kidneys with a rusty spanner.

hasn't experience taught us pandering to bullies just emboldens them to be worse - the way to push back the racist/xenophobic agenda is for a critical mass of decent people to stand up for what is right.

a moral government should be part of creating and maintaining that mass.

income tax increases, while never welcome, could be made palatable by:

1. telling the story of what they'll be used to fix/improve.
2. also taking aim at standardising something like capital gains tax which unfairly favours those with quite a lot of those with eff all.
November 14, 2025 at 10:32 AM
to be clear i don't expect this to happen because I don't see either Nandy or Starmer having the vision or the courage to do it.
November 11, 2025 at 10:29 AM
they could reconstitute the board from scratch. use the current mess as their reason (and cackle as the right hypocritically claim drastic action isn't needed after all)) - they could choose method that would minimise partisanship, making it tougher for the next government to reverse.
November 11, 2025 at 10:28 AM
100% - at least officially. but Tory political influence created this situation so Labour should be able to swing things in the other direction and taking advantage of a crisis created by the right to take the serious steps needs to emasculate their influence would be genius.
November 11, 2025 at 9:26 AM
defenestrating Gibb would be a show of force. but you're right, finding replacements who would both do the job right and not be vulnerable when subjected to the full scrutiny and every dirty trick of the right wing press would be tricky.
November 11, 2025 at 9:12 AM
this seems like a chance to shake their heads in sorrow and tear the current board out entirely, handing Gibb a loss. stick someone unimpeachable in to run BBC short term and select a clean board going forward avoiding anything too political in doing so.
November 11, 2025 at 8:12 AM
and now i have to spend the next week waiting to see in what feckless, spineless manner Labour are going to surrender yet more ground to the far right while the right wing noise machine act like they are models of journalistic probity.
November 10, 2025 at 1:15 PM
i always picture someone having to sneak a mild soporific into McSleazy's drink so he falls asleep long enough to stop him whispering in Starmer's ear like some hideous Grima Reformtongue
October 22, 2025 at 6:46 PM
like grubby, technocratic Santas they'll decide who's been naughty and who's 'played their part'.

By now you have to suspect they don't speak out against xenophobic rhetoric because they are xenophobes.

while i appreciate the attempt to offer an even tempered take on life, there are so many terrible things happening today which demand emotional reactions from us all. or should.

the soulless gamification of politics matters because so many other evils sprout from those roots.
