Below is my column from The Hill today regarding the Voting Rights Act and a current pattern of racism and bigotry extending to political representation.
Louisiana v. Callais is not just a small fight over one state’s voting maps. It’s a test of whether the US still believes in protecting every citizen’s right to fair representation.

This week, the Supreme Court heard arguments in a case that could weaken the Voting Rights Act.

The D Party has devolved into “Not Trump.” It no longer listens, and it doesn’t stand for working folks, wages, or cost of living.

If the D Party was branded in, governed on, and talked about kitchen table issues, people would want to be a part of it.

On July 3, a US District Court sided with the Voter Participation Center to permanently block the enforcement of an anti-voter provision in Kansas Law HB 2332, reaffirming that voter engagement is protected free speech under the First Amendment.

I am not an identity-politics-first sort of guy, but when you watch the race and gender of electeds that Trump arrests, and when you watch the race and gender of university presidents that Republicans drive out, you can’t help but notice they seem to be identity-politics sort of people: racists.
