A picture of a corpse who has bled out seems a bit much for the BBC homepage last night? Not really typical of how they report these (thankfully very rare) incidents as far as I remember?

Really enjoyed speaking at the @rgsibg.bsky.social annual conference yesterday. Met some incredible people and lots of food for thought for future research. Big thanks to @pancholewis.bsky.social and the other panel conveners.

Hadn't read the news today, just opened up the guardian page with lunch. Sweet mother, mainstream politics is just a revolving drum of race baiting and poor shaming these days and totally divorced from material reality.

Was fun yesterday presenting a lightning talk about my research on the 2024 Welsh Farmer Protests at the Keele PGR Research Symposium. Also lovely to get a mention of commendation from the organisers. Looking forward to a longer format talk about this at the @rgsibg.bsky.social conference in August.

Brilliant short read from @adamcalo.bsky.social. I'm reading/writing a lot about farmer identity a lot currently. Adam highlights really well how farmer identity is still dominated by capital production, and how this is incredibly tough for new entrants.

Yet more fantastic and thought provoking writing from @ckweatherill.bsky.social. Researching climate change/sustainability and flying to conferences are incompatible for me. It's hard to square with a potential future academic career though. One of my favourite sections in the screenshot 🔥

Sat in a beer garden reading some MMT...good first chapter. Picture is a reminder that I just don't have the aesthetic to become a leftie book influencer type!

Politicians doing photo ops is almost always involves some level of ridiculousness. Here we have the chancellor in a hi viz, next to two blokes in camouflage. The perfect optic for the 'mixed messaging' around how skint we are. Plenty of money for bombs, not so much for the poorest in society.

A few days away from PhD and political organising were definitely needed. First two Wainwright's of the year ticked off and some much needed quality time with my family.

Excellent morning of solidarity en route to the office. Second hand book sale outside the Student Union. Chatting to the seller about the new Keele Left Book Club that I've set up and Chomsky being the first book that we're reading. He let me have it for half price ✊ @leftbookclub.bsky.social

16 months ago I gave up my career as a musician to return to academia and study my other great passion, sustainability. I had zero prior relevant academic background and was frankly terrified! Today I graduated with my MSc and won the best dissertation prize. Huge thanks to @dccmckay.bsky.social

Steve Reed will shortly be addressing Oxford Farming Conference announcing the reset of the relationship with farmers. A good 100+ tractors outside suggest that protesting farmers aren't quite on the same page as him.

More protests in London....I even got to meet the legendary Steve Bray.

Dipping back into the former career tonight. Bride and groom have stated no Mr Brightside....I'm unsure if this is a positive or negative!

En route to observe what will likely be the biggest UK farmer protest in 20 years. The millionaire who bought a farm to avoid inheritance tax and last week said that 'the government wants to ethnically cleanse the Countryside to move in immigrants is seemingly positioned to be the face of them.

Dragged myself out for a gravel ride.....I hate riding in the rain almost as much as I hate the Tories. On balance I'll take the biking though. Both are cold a miserable, but at least there's a bit of good feeling at the end of a wet bike ride.

At the Welsh Labour conference today. Mass farmer protest, Palestine solidarity protest, Unite Union protest.....it's only 11:30am! In case it was in doubt, I'd say that the honeymoon period for Labour is over.
