I'm selfishly hoping that Matrix picks up stem as people move off of SMS (if you don't want to deal with Meta/Whatsapp), since I've just managed to move most of my family over.

How does the atproto compare to what they use at matrix.org? I've started using a matrix based chat (Element) and been pretty happy so far.

I'm not sure how well the business model works (if I actually subscribe, how much of my membership goes towards supporting the actual journalist) but I think it has the potential to compliment my podcasts diet.

For society as advanced as ours to function, we can't all afford to question everything. If you design microchips maybe you didn't also have the bandwidth to understand the science behind vaccines or how to optimize the air flow in an office building.

Ha, that is a new one for me. So The deep state stole an election, planted instigators in hate groups, coordinated the attack on the capital just in time to prevent Hawley and Cruz (both noted reliable sources) from overturning the election?
I thought the right believed the government was inept.

It's fundamentally impossible to squash conspiracy theories with "facts".
December 24, 2024 at 2:51 PM
That could just be a deep state telling me what I expect to hear. Right?

And now we get to the heart of our nation's problems. What source can I point you to that will change your belief in these statements?

For example, a quick search of the claim about the national guard will show that this claim has been investigated and no creditable evidence found but...

So... We can agree on the fact that the FBI had confidential informants in multiple of the domestic terrorist groups that were involved with the Jan 6. Isn't that what the FBI is supposed to do?

Where you lose me is the claim that they incited the riot and were ordered to do so by the deep state.
December 24, 2024 at 2:29 PM
Agreed. That would be easier. That's why I struggle to understand rather than simply applying a convenient label.

Reality does exist and history happened.

I maintain that there must be some explanation for why people turn to conspiracy theories to explain away what we all saw with their own eyes.

I'm having trouble believing many people honestly think these two are the same. It's just part of the Rights favorite pastime of gaslighting the country and "owning the libs".
December 24, 2024 at 2:05 PM

The Jan 6 "riots" were organized by the losers of a free and fair election, with the specific intent to maintain power. Your Jane 6 "patriots" targeted individual members of the government for capture and execution.

BLM was a nationwide response to the continued brutality of black and brown people in this country. Peaceful March took place in towns all across the country and brought together families from all walks of life to show solidarity and demand a better, more just society.
