Back in February 2023, I wrote a thread about the #Tolkien #art of Cor Blok. The idea was to show appreciation for how interpretations of Tolkien's Middle-earth vary and yet are wonderful. I repeat the thread here.

If Andor Season 2 is HALF the quality of Season 1 it will still be at least twice as good as nearly everything else in Star Wars from the last 30 years. I am so stoked for this.

Working on an essay examining the Hobbit through the lens of the Silmarillion rather than the Lord of the Rings. While the tone of these stories makes them feel like polar opposites, they actually share a lot of commonalities in narrative plot and theme.

In no particular order, these five stand out to me:

In the House of Tom Bombadil
The Bridge of Khazad-dûm
The Voice of Saruman
The Siege of Gondor
Mount Doom
Tell me your top 5 chapters in the Lord of the Rings. Impossible, but sure, I'll bite. No order.

1. Lothlórien
2. The Grey Havens
3. Mount Doom
4. Treebeard
5. The Siege of Gondor

HM: The Bridge of Khazad-dûm, The Breaking of the Fellowship, The Choices of Master Samwise, too many more to list.
Tell me your top 5 chapters in the Lord of the Rings.

Here are mine, not in order:
1. The Shadow of the Past
2. The Council of Elrond
3. In the House of Tom Bombadil
4. Shelob’s Lair
5. The Steward and the King

The people telling us how good generative AI is for us are either people financially invested in generative AI or people interested in not paying writers, editors, artists, communications staff, designers, etc. Maybe we could go ahead and not listen to them.

My criteria for a Christmas movie is it has to be set during the holidays and be about reconnecting with family, finding love, and/or bettering yourself. Die Hard fits ALL of these. Couple that with the Christmas music and myriad of Christmas references and like, of course it is.

Here’s another #Tolkien question: What is your favorite quote (can be books or adaptation)?

Some of mine are:

“Aurë entuluva” [day shall come again] from The Silmarillion

“Despair is only for those who see the end beyond all doubt. We do not” from RotK

What about you?

Reskeet for more answers!

Ignoring the rest of the Star Wars canon, Andor, Rogue One, and A New Hope make for quite the satisfying, standalone 'Death Star' saga, with Han and Luke finishing what Cassian (and Jyn) started.
