Retired computer engineer. Worried sick about the state of our politics.
If the perpetrator was a diplomat, he would probably have had immunity. All the USA can do in such a case is declare him "persona non grata" and kick him out of the country. This is not a new thing.

Secretary Rubio knows well that if Ukraine falls, Putin will move on to Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia -- unless he tries first for Poland. All four are NATO members, so the world would soon learn whether Article 5 has meaning in the Trump era. This is how WW II began. Maybe WW III too?

Would it be possible for a few multi-billionaire philanthropists -- and a whole lot of "mere mortal" donors (I would happily cough up $1,000.00 or more for the right program) -- to fund the mRNA vaccine research that RFK Jr. has trashed? Does the math work? Is anybody looking into this?

Increasing IQ through eugenics would be dicey at best. There are many kinds of intelligence and numerous genes (known and unknown) that affect them. Getting the generation-time under 25 years would be difficult. My bet is that AI will develop far faster. Let's ask instead how we'll manage it.

A tongue-in-cheek response might be best. Revised Smithsonian exhibits: 1. "The Eager Immigration of Africans to Work on American Plantations." 2. "The Favorite Vacation Resort of Japanese-Americans during World War II." 3. "The Native Americans' Grateful Gift of North America to Europeans."

Actually, when President Trump hears about violent crime in D.C., he flips a coin. Heads: He pardons everybody (as with the J6 insurrection). Tails: He activates the National Guard (as with the carjacking of his favorite DOGE minion).
August 11, 2025 at 3:56 PM
The DC thugs made the biggest possible mistake: they tried to carjack the best-known DOGE employee. From now on, they should ask potential targets, "Um... how big are your balls?" [Sorry.]

Trump has demanded that homeless people leave Washington D.C. immediately. News flash: The homeless have jumped into their BMW's en mass and are heading for their summer homes on Martha's Vineyard. Problem solved!

Putin has no need to manipulate Trump when they share the same goals. They are meeting on U.S. soil; Trump accepted Putin’s demand that Zelinski be excluded; and Trump says Ukraine must cede land to Russia. Let's hope Europe will provide Ukraine with the support America has withdrawn.

The list of universities Trump is extorting continues to grow with the addition of UCLA, as do the amounts he is demanding -- in this case, a staggering $1 billion. Couldn't these institutions band together and bring a class-action suit challenging the no-class actions of the Blackmailer-in-Chief?
August 8, 2025 at 7:16 PM
Ms. Maxwell's statement that DJT "never did anything concerning around her" is believable: exactly what actions, one must ask, would this person find "concerning?"

I can't understand RFK Jr. halting mRNA vaccine research. It was the basis of Trump’s "Operation Warp Speed." It saved millions from Covid-19. Do the Project 2025 people (e.g., Yarvin, Thiel, and Vance) think that only we "libs" can get sick? It makes no sense.
August 6, 2025 at 4:16 AM
RFK Jr. will cancel $500 million of vaccine development projects? This is premeditated mass murder on an unheard-of scale. Thanks to SCOTUS, the president is immune from prosecution for his complicity. But surely, the HHS Secretary can and should be charged, prosecuted, convicted, and sentenced.

The idea of unemployed Medicaid recipients picking crops doesn't merit serious discussion. How many of them are young and healthy enough for 12 hours a day of back-breaking work in the sun? How will they commute from the cities to the fields? Won't ICE assume they're undocumented and deport them?
August 5, 2025 at 5:31 PM
So... Can cities and states that participate actively in bombing and starving Gazans qualify thereby for EXTRA federal aid?

I would MUCH rather read than view videos or listen to podcasts. I detest most movies and TV. When I read, I remember and understand. Evaluating the clarity of writing helps me assess the quality of the writer's thinking. Full disclosure: I'm 80; but I felt the same at 25.

"Defenestrate" means to remove (Microsoft) Windows from your computer, maybe replacing it with Linux. Right?

Republicans just voted to let Trump take the Qatari Boeing 747 with him when he leaves office. But look at the bright side: Maybe he plans NEVER to leave office... so it will be OUR 747 forever. Lucky us!

Most interesting. Going in with a bit of stat knowledge (and a wife who takes Gabapentin for back pain), I read parts one and two of Dr. Murray's analysis. It appears that the (sadly nonquantitative) target study answers the question, "Does Gabapentin cause dementia?" with, "Maybe, maybe not."

The only explanation (if that's the right word) I could see for gutting USAID and PEPFAR -- and for the consequent hunger, disease, and death -- was that to Musk and his minions, non-white means non-human. If there's another reason, I need to hear it: please educate me.
July 31, 2025 at 8:30 PM
Fortunately, DNI Gabbard's statement is also incredibly stupid. The parsimonious explanation for not posting on X is, "because I don't like it."
July 31, 2025 at 7:35 PM
I once thought that Republicans backed Trump so slavishly because they feared violence by his base against themselves and their families. But the confirmation of Emil Bove convinced me that their desire to end democracy is as great as that of their Dear Leader. Perhaps Sen. Murphy agrees.
July 31, 2025 at 7:17 PM
But "masterly" sounds less dirty than "masticate." Chew on that! (Sorry.)

Sadly, many people assume that they just don't understand when a "great" person like a senator spews oral diarrhea. The poor listners blame themselves.
