Sounds very likely and fairly in line with Takaichi making it all about herself as PM rather than party or coalition, they all know "LDP" doesn't sell right now.

I'm going to be straight with you it feels like it's been mostly bad years so far in 2026, but I have high hopes for the last few decades up to 2027

Another interesting fact is that the northern regions where snow is a problem vote much more against the LDP than other warmer regions.

Hmmm....

"A decade ago, Japan was frequently criticized for "pulling up the drawbridge” by declining to accept large numbers of asylum seekers. Now, many of those same critics say that global refugee system itself must be scrapped."

Really? Who made that reversal? Quote them.

Complete bullshit.

Ishin is obviously getting the shaft here (as was clear they would, from the get-go) but I'm pretty confident that one is going to bite Jimin in the ass too, and I'm here for it!

"stay the course" here means continue being the biggest peddler of coal in the G7, promoting bullshit non-solutions around hydrogen, blocking grid scale solar and generally being steered by fossil fuel lobbyists, so yeah. They're just less brazen about it than the US.

Looking forward to those opportunists getting used and promptly discarded back into irrelevance by the LDP, following close in Ishin's footsteps.

Would serve them right for having no convictions and no spine.

Oh look a jiji with a spine!

We invented this new groundbreaking thing merging the concepts of livestreams and podcasts. We shall call it "radio"!

The whole Japanese left is, well not quite dead, but it's 80 with bad knees and a heart condition. It's depressing how irrelevant all left parties seem to anyone under 60, and that includes Reiwa

"Japan" doesn't hate it, at least it did not before X and the media chose to amplify the voices of the terminally online reactionary bullies who somehow ended up in charge of public discourse in the country.
January 8, 2026 at 2:33 AM
Absolutely correct & absolutely not going to happen.
