#TurtleDay is also a chance to showcase what my kids thought was The Best Thing in the Palermo Achaeological Museum, the resident Turtles.
Could some go in your garden @romanpalace?

It's #WorldTurtleDay and turtles/ tortoises are just one of the many types of animals recorded as Roman figurines in Britain. Possibly associated with Mercury.

Swiss Roll constructed, Toblerone on hand. All ready for #Eurovision2025.

Somehow I feel William Wood of York 'Mutision' (Musician) and his Punchanella would have been right at home #token #17thcentury 🗃️🏺🎶

This duck looks more guilty at being told off than terrified of the roaring lion.

6th-7th century BCE alabastron from Agrigento.

I wonder if browsing @findsorguk.bsky.social helped him chose a name.

This Bulla of Leo III (795-816), Leonis, is the earliest bulla they have recorded (for now).

Stylishly minimalist if he is looking to design his new one.

A lot of my work is big picture, maps and graphs. It was great fun to focus on a single #17thcentury #token in depth for this article, and an #Irish one at that.

Open Access on academia for people who like wool, ships, Ireland, tokens, 17th century stuff or quakers.

A late in the day but good one for #FindsFriday

Very late entry for #MosaicMonday.

A hot sticky day in London, wish I was back in this seaside Sicilian villa

There is the bad writing but it is the "humble gift" bit that is making me go ewww, very 18th century colonial

Ooh look at the curly ends to the handles like
finds.org.uk/database/art...

Although see the record already spotted the resemblance and yours are probably the proper ivory ones rather than local copper alloy copies of the form.

Lovely.
Every time I use my old Barum jug for gravy I think of all the endless Glazed Red Earthernwares I have recorded!

George de Thorpe's arms head the Norfolk section of the Parliamentary Roll of 1312, after his brother John's. He was active on many campaigns with the King and tournaments.
The mount was probably worn as a cheekpiece on the bridle, or possibly higher on the head, as in the c.1240 Life of St Alban.

6 years after first recording it for @findsorguk.bsky.social it was nice to write more about this wonderful #medieval harness mount for the John Clark festschrift.

Made around 1300 with the arms of Sir George de Thorpe of Suffolk. #findsfriday.

I'm not saying Devon is a little behind the times but pretty sure the association of apothecaries and selling tobacco was supposed to have ended by the mid-17th century in England... #EarlyModern

Nice stained glass though.

The other month I visited Fitzrovia Chapel for the first time. The only word for it is a 'jewel'!
Love byzantine mosaic ceilings, original, medieval successors, or Victorian revival.

Late for #FindsFriday but early for #InternationalWomensDay is this buckle stamped by Hester Bateman, successful businesswomen and innovative silver manufacturer in the late #18thcentury.
Most museum pieces of hers are cutlery or vessels but @finds.org.uk have recorded smaller items like thimbles.

Ann Mitchell's halfpenny token was roughly equivalent to the £1 book tokens being given out for #WorldBookDay. (Depending how you measure it, measuringworth.com)

It wouldn't have brought you the gorgeous clasped book shown but a couple might get you a broadsheet or cheap chapbook.

If you see this quote post a tree ( don't forget the Alt text)

My favorite local tree, a huge oak, I visited it often. It came down in the autumn storms, a real grief at the loss.

It's a year since our 50 Post Medieval and Modern Finds book came out and still glad I argued to include this one.

From when an indoor toilet was a grand luxury worthy of decoration.

Popped into Ewenni Priory. Added somewhere else to the list of sites I'd like to live in.
Fabulous animal head.
Slightly more confused/ worried by this other carving!
