Oh, wow! I had no idea this was on its way. I'll try and get some passthrough comparison shots with the Quest 3 up on my Mastodon soon. #LynxR1 #WebXR

Apple has been a big proponent of USD(Z) for realtime models, including on the web via the <model> tag proposal. But it's worth mentioning that when they needed a high-quality, material-accurate, realtime model of the iPhone 15 for their site, they used glTF to deliver it. 😉

Someone referred to the Apple Vision Pro as "AVP", and I immediately had to do this:

I missed it originally, but there were a couple of appearances of Safari in the Apple XR presentation. (Was always mixed in with other productivity apps, so it was easy to miss.) Nothing unexpected here. It's just Safari floating in space.

Hey, turns out that Multi-channel signed distance field (MSDF) text rendering is pretty easy to implement! Got this working in WebGPU in a couple of hours last night/this morning.

Chrome 113 is rolling out to stable now! Happy #WebGPU without any flags day, ya'll!

Just for fun: Been working on a toy deferred renderer in #WebGPU. You can see a live demo at https://toji.github.io/burrow/demo/ and the code at https://github.com/toji/burrow (Fair warning: The code is messy, this was just an educational project for me.)

TFW you accidentally screw up the ambient occlusion and create quite the fashion statement. #WebGPU #glTF

I got a couple phishing emails today asking me to enter my account details to keep my blue check. So good job creating that attack vector. Also, it's hilarious that Twitter thinks the blue checks are worth anything after the lengths they've gone to to devalue them.

As a "self birthday present" I commissioned a profile picture from the wonderfully talented Thomas Gallivan (https://instagram.com/larietom) Honestly, this drawing is too cute for me to claim it's an accurate representation, but allow me a bit of false advertising in this case. 😉

Got a new wallet as a gift. Inside the pockets there were two items.

Today's Android build of Chrome Canary, v111.0.5563.0, is the first public version with WebGPU support! Turn it on in about:flags and give it a try!

Just published a new version of the WebXR-input-profiles asset package that includes models of the Pico 4 controllers! Thanks to @FangzhenS for the contribution.

Sounds like the GOP are sending their best negotiators to work out the speaker vote.

In contrast to previous years, there was really no Christmas spike in WebXR input profiles usage this year. Quest 2 has reached saturation point? Overall usage is 3X of last year's Christmas spike, though!

A modest proposal: Last engineer with prod access replaces twitter with a static page that just shows this image, as a memorial and a warning to future generations (with apologies to @dorrismccomics)

Meta kindly sent me a replacement elite strap after mine broke (despite it being literally *one day* out of warranty!) and the box made me smile. You can tell exactly how old it is based on the branding. It's like tree rings!

Ah, yes! The two genders: people and popsicles with power sockets in them.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! #Quest2StrapFail (I blame this on the fact that I told @rcabanier that my strap was still holding up earlier this week. Jinxed it!)
