Apropos of the latest recast I am sharing my email to Gen///shin CS last month. It really hurts to see the way they keep undermining their creative labor </3
I was a regular Genshin player for almost three years (starting from Version 2.7). Throughout the years I've been playing the game, I have deeply respected the effort that your creative team put together into this game. I admire the scope of creative ambition from narrative, environment design, music, as well as character concept: your team put together a diverse worldbuilding that feels deeply enjoyable to explore. It's also VERY satisfying to hear the character's voice-acting bringing life to your wide array of characters; I often switch voices while playing the game to listen to the many languages of the character's VA and their interesting performances. In the past, I have also supported your creative ambition by financially supporting the game through Welkin Moon and buying Crystal. However, the recent actions that Hoyoverse has taken—or has refused to take—in regards to protecting your voice actors (in all of your game) showed that the respect I have for your creative team is not something that the company shares. Many of your English VA cast IN ALL OF YOUR GAMES has been striking for better AI protections, a massive problem that has plagued not only your cast, but also the entire voice acting industry. 1) While your voice actors are striking, the company has never ONCE acknowledged a strike is happening. Every version update of Genshin has NEVER once acknowledge VOICE ACTOR STRIKE as a reason why THE GAME REMAINS UNVOICED IN ENGLISH. The explanation that you give, "scheduling problem", obfuscates the situation in an attempt to invalidate strike hapening—the strike that your actors have taken to NOT ONLY protect their right, but also THE EXISTENCE OF THE JOB that brings your game alive. The obfuscation opens so much room baseless speculation and anti-labor rhetoric, especially for content creators that seek to create sensasionalist headlines to bait angry engagement. Your company's lack of transparancy, let alone respect, when it comes to the strike opens room for toxic fandom rhetorics and ongoing VA harassments. 2) Zero effort to meet voice actors' demand for better AI protection (and work protection IN GENERAL), despite you have more than power to ensure so. Kayli Mill (Keqing's VA) has publically stated that there is no language for AI protection in Genshin contract. Your English VA casts have presented NAVA AI Rider which would at least grants them some form of AI protection, albeit not enforcable, and yet Genshin has never signed this. Moreover, your company has never showed up to discuss with SAG about SAG-interim, which offers enforcable AI protection that would secure your VA's rights, despite the fact that plenty Chinese developers had managed to do so (e.g. Paperfold's Infinite Nikki, NetEase's Marvel Rival, Tencent's Lighspeed LA studio). This is not to mention Corina's statement that you have regularly broke contract by not ensuring timely paycheck for your actors. HOYOVERSE have the POWER and RESPONSIBILITY to ensure better work protections, and the fact that your company does not is deeply shameful. 3) Recasting struck actor with scab hire. The recasting has been a pattern in ALL OF YOUR GAME with English VAs (Genshin, HSR, ZZZ). This is straight up an act of undermining your voice actor's fight for better protection, taking away their role, potentially fucking over their livelihood. Moreover, as a player, I am extremely dissatisfied with how rushed the creative process that takes place during recasting, as it is reflected in how underbaked the final product is. You are essentially delivering A WORSE EXPERIENCE FOR THE PLAYER because you simply do not want to respect and meet the actor's demand. While I have a deep attachment to the world you created—the world that comes alive with the creative talents that you have, including voice actors—I can no longer support your game in this current state. Not when you do not support some of the most important creative labor that brings your game and your character alive. Not when you do not show respect to ENG VAs like this.

Also, in the interest of presenting factual information instead of nitpicking some random words so you can hate on some unfortunate VAs, you can check what Kayli Mills explain about the rates that the company pays to Genshin ENG VA in more detail.

Summary: it does not pay THAT well.

That means you are guaranteed least $500 per session, whether that session is 2 full hours or 10 minute. And then $250 per hour thereafter."
