Also an incredibly good book about the topic is Making of Biblical Womanhood by Beth Allison Barr, who is both an historian and a Baptist pastors wife if that interests you! Her discussions about medieval ideas about women were FASCINATING.

Having also been raised Catholic, I find that stuff so interesting because it’s like ‘exactly the same, exactly the same, almost the same, COULD NOT BE MORE DIFFERENT’.

I think she does think it’s good but I don’t think her primary motivation was to make a good album and if it was ummmmm.

It is feeling like an album she made to wrap up her deal with UMG and either take a long break (unlikely lbh) or to announce she’s starting her own record label. (There is absolutely no reason to believe the later other than the weird, going through the motions vibes btw.)

One of those songs that proves the standard verse-chorus-verse-bridge structure of songs can be a hindrance to great songwriting as much as a help I think.
