A big day at Toganmain!

In preparation for this weekend’s working bee, and the 150th we had volunteers on site today working on some important projects.

We can’t wait to see you at the 150th.

🚣‍♂️ This 1875 image of Groongal, Toganmain’s western neighbour, appears in Letters from the River. “Tom” wrote of Toganmain’s splendid homestead and new woolshed. 📖 A vivid glimpse into early days. Read more: nla.gov.au/nla.obj-3400...

🐑 The Beginning — 1875: The Toganmain Woolshed was built by shipbuilders! The same skills that kept ships afloat crafted the shed that stands today. Check out this flipped photo — can you spot the shape of a ship’s keel?

A working bee full of action: hot water coming, bathrooms refreshed, floors lifted, treasure hunted, and lighting strung along the main board. Big thanks to the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Men’s Shed team for raising the floor!

Huge thanks to Cootamundra & District Machinery Restoration Society for restoring our mighty Southern Cross engine. Taken to Cootamundra, stripped down, reinstalled in the shed — and now listen to it purr!

Denis and Craig spent the weekend building the wood-fired oven — from a hole in the wall to a smoking chimney. Fire bricks, dust, and tight, claustrophobic spaces, but worth it! The first pizzas are out and smelling amazing, with plenty more to come.

Getting ready for the 150th! We built a new ramp using local cypress pine so everyone can safely enter the shed. From winching the trunk onto the mill to trimming bark, cutting boards and laying them in place, it’s been a real team effort — and it smells amazing too!
